With all due respect to the likes of the Rimac Nevera, Aston Martin Valkyrie, McLaren Senna, Pininfarina Battista, or anything with a Koenigsegg badge, none of them offer as complete a package as the Bugatti Chiron. The French hypercar is still the pinnacle of luxury and speed, with owners not having to compromise on anything whenever they get behind the wheel.
In the end, that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? Not compromising. Usually, cars that are ultra-fast, aren’t ultra luxurious, and vice versa. Or maybe they are, but not to the same extent, as in, they’re not going to be as fast as they are luxurious. In fact, most hypercars offer somewhat rudimentary interiors (in a good way), allowing you to focus on the driving experience.

The Bugatti Chiron is probably still the only vehicle in its class that’s a 10/10 when it comes not just to performance, but also comfort and build quality. Actually, 10/10 is an understatement. This thing is off the charts.

Bugatti unveiled the Chiron back in 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show, and when they did, the Veyron became an immediate afterthought.

This mid-engine all-wheel-drive beast is powered by an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, with a peak output of 1,479 horsepower (1,500 ps) and 1,180 lb-ft (1,600 Nm) of torque. That’s 296 hp more than the Veyron Supersport, and a massive 429 hp more than the the original Veyron.

In terms of performance, all you need to know is that regardless of which Chiron you’ve got (if you’re lucky enough to have one), it’ll do 0-60 mph in about 2.4 seconds, 124 mph in 6.5 seconds, 186 mph in 13.6 seconds, and 249 mph in about 32.6 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 261 mph (420 kph), unless we’re talking about the Super Sport 300+, which can accelerate to speeds in excess of 300 mph (483 kph).

Have you ever wondered which Chiron is the best Chiron though? If the answer is yes, then you’re in luck, because we’ve just put together the definitive Bugatti Chiron power rankings, which take into account not just every single version of this car, but also every single special edition and limited-edition model.

There’s only one caveat. Two actually. The first – we’ll only be discussing Chiron models that are/were at some point for sale, meaning no demonstrator vehicles like the Chiron Sky View prototype. As for the second stipulation, we won’t be considering any Chiron-based models, because it really wouldn’t be fair. This means that the Divo, Bolide, Centodieci, Mistral and the La Voiture Noire will not be on this list.

#17. Chiron

This is the original Chiron, the very first specification that left the factory in Molsheim. It’s last on our list because it’s the least special among its own kind.

Otherwise, you’re looking at a masterpiece of technical engineering. Word has it that the first three Chiron customer cars made their way to Europe and the Middle East, and that by January of 2022, every single “base-spec” Chiron had been sold.

Now, just because this version is a little more “basic” than the others, doesn’t mean the specs can’t be crazy good. Customers could still opt for a wide variety of exterior and interior configurations, which means that visually, the entry-level Chiron can look every bit as good as any of its “specialized” variants, like the Pur Sport or the Super Sport. More on those later.

#16. Chiron Habille par Hermes

Bugatti Chiron Habille par Hermes

Usually, 1 of 1 cars tend to be near the top of most such lists, and the Chiron Habille par Hermes is just that, a one-of-a-kind build. The thing is, this was commissioned by a customer, which is perfectly fine – just not as cool as a limited-edition car built by Bugatti in celebration of a specific thing.

The exterior of this Chiron is wearing a stunning shade of white called ‘Craie’, made famous by Hermes’ legendary handbags. This same hue can be found on the ‘Classique’ wheels, rear bumper, and various trim parts. Meanwhile, the horseshoe grille features the Parisian brand’s signature ‘H’ monogram, while its ‘Courbettes’ motif can be found on the underside of the rear wing.

Other stunning highlights include the optional Sky View glass roof, Italian Red brake calipers, plus a bespoke interior where you can find ‘Ecru’ leather and even more ‘Craie’ on various surfaces.

#15. Chiron Number One Edition

Bugatti Chiron Number One Edition

This car is technically the first-ever production Chiron (and the first ordered for the U.S. market), which is why Bugatti saw fit to install a special livery that makes it look kind of like the 1966 Batmobile.

There’s not a lot of info out there about this vehicle, but we do know that it got auctioned off back in 2017 with, at the time, 250 miles on the clock. We can also tell you that it featured a black leather interior with red contrast stitching and carbon fiber elements.

Still, if you’re any type of comic book fan, your attention is probably still on the classic Batmobile inspired exterior. George Barris would have loved this.

#14. Chiron Sport

Bugatti Chiron Sport

Unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, this so-called Sport version of the Bugatti Chiron is supposed to be more track-focused, even though mechanically, this is just a standard Chiron that happens to weigh 40 lbs less. It also comes with a more unrestricted exhaust system, more carbon fiber, a stiffer suspension and slightly different handling characteristics, but that’s about it.

When new, these retailed for an extra $400,000 compared to the standard Chiron, with production being limited to 60 units. It’s rarer than the standard Chiron (they made 100 of those), which is why it deserves to sit higher on this list.

As for notable performance differences, you get the same quad-turbocharged W16 engine and the same 1,479 hp, so 0-60 takes 2.4 seconds. This isn’t a faster or even quicker Chiron, but rather a slightly sportier one in terms of how it feels on the road.

#13. Chiron Edition Noire

Bugatti Chiron Edition Noire
Photo: WheelsAge
The Edition Noire is meant to pay tribute to the Type 57 SC Atlantic that went missing in the aftermath of WWII, featuring a dark carbon fiber aesthetic, and an exclusive configuration. The glossy black exposed carbon fiber is said to create a “full night-mode effect”, according to the carmaker, with other highlights to include the polished aluminum elements (mirrors, engine cover), plus an exclusive pattern for the radiator grille.

Inside is where you’ll find additional black elements, in contrast to the silk-matte aluminum finish. Basically, this is a really cool-looking specification, both inside and out.

I’m ranking the Edition Noire ahead of the previous four variants not just because of its appearance, but also because only 20 such units are known to exist. Sure, it’s not rarer than that Habille par Hermes Chiron, but it’s certainly nicer and it’s a limited-edition factory spec, which is always more interesting than a bespoke customer car.

#12. Chiron Sport Alice

I was going to rank this below the Edition Noire, but in the end I couldn’t escape the fact that even though this is a customer configuration, it’s still a 1 of 1 and a Sport, so I suppose that’s worth certain considerations.

This must have been one of the most expensive Valentine Day’s gifts ever, seeing as how it was commissioned by a husband as a gift for his wife.

Visually, you’ve got Silk Rose covering the back half of the vehicle, with a frozen shade of white acting in contrast. Then you’ve got additional pink elements such as the wheels and the upper part of the wing mirrors. Then there’s the contrast stitching found inside. Speaking of the interior, this car has the name ‘Alice’ embroidered into the driver-side headrest, and on the door sills.

Happy wife, happy life, am I right?

#11. Chiron Sport 110 Ans Bugatti

We’ve entered factory spec limited-edition territory for the Chiron Sport, and the first of two models we’ll be discussing is this ‘110 Ans Bugatti’ version. It’s meant to celebrate the French brand’s 110-year anniversary, while also paying tribute to France herself.

There’s a lot to love about this spec, from the matte Steel Blue paintwork and the exposed carbon fiber, to the ‘Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge' French tricolor found on the wing mirrors and on the underside of the rear wing. Meanwhile, the wheels are painted in ‘Nocturne’ matte black, while the calipers are wearing French Racing Blue, which is a type of bright blue.

As for the interior, it’s all hand-crafted with Deep Blue leather, Alcantara, French Racing Blue elements and additional tricolor highlights. Only 20 such cars exist, and they’re all special beyond belief.

#10. Chiron Sport Les Legendes du Ciel

Bugatti Chiron Sport Les Legende du Ciel

Talk about special! I can’t help but put the ‘Les Legendes du Ciel’ Chiron ahead of the ‘110 Ans Bugatti’ variant. These too are limited to just 20 units, but unlike the latter, they’re a bit more mainstream in their design/livery - paying homage to daredevils of the sky, rather than a specific country.

It’s also nice to know that Ettore Bugatti himself was always inspired by aviation, having designed his own aircraft engines. In fact, in 1937, he developed an entire aircraft for breaking speed records, although the project never saw the light of day due to WWII.

In terms of visual cues, this limited-edition Chiron Sport comes with matte gray Gris Serpent paint, a high-contrast gloss white central stripe, special logos, the French tricolor, exposed carbon fiber, and a gloss black finish for the radiator grille.

As for the interior, you’ve got a hand-sketched racing scene (Bugatti Type 13 vs. Nieuport 17 plane) on the door panels, Gaucho leather, aluminum trim, special edition numbering, and you can even get the optional Sky View glass roof to create further parallels between the car and vintage open-top aircraft from the past century.

#9. Chiron L’Ebe

Bugatti Chiron Sport L'Ebe
Photo: WheelsAge
This is a bit of a tricky one, seeing as how we’re dealing with a super limited-edition specification (only 3 units made), but one that was made available on both the standard Chiron and the Sport model.

Visually, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that this is a better-looking car compared to many of the ones we’ve just discussed, but the limited availability makes for a compelling argument. If one of these babies ever hits the auction block, it’ll bring in way more than any of the previous variants.

So what’s the deal here? Well, the L’Ebe pays homage to Ettore Bugatti’s daughter, hence the bespoke Art Deco details, featuring gold accents and exposed, blue-tinted carbon fiber throughout. There’s also some gold on the ‘EB’ badging, on the wheels, and on the horseshoe grille. Then there’s L’Ebe’s signature logo on the underside of the retractable rear spoiler, as well as on the treadplates; and hand-stitched into the headrests.

Speaking of the interior, you also get exposed, blue-tinted carbon fiber, to go with ‘Silk’ leather featuring ‘Lake Blue’ highlights. Oh, and each door panel comes with a motif depicting the visual evolution of Bugatti’s most iconic cars, from early GP racers to the EB100, Veyron, and of course, the Chiron.

#8. Chiron Pur Sport

Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport
Photo: WheelsAge
We’re really getting into it now, and despite the Pur Sport not being as rare as some of the versions we’ve already discussed, technically, this is a special type of Chiron from the get-go, and still they made only 60 of them.

The Pur Sport blows the Sport out of the water when it comes to handling. It’s got a higher redline, revised transmission, weighs less by 60 lbs or so (110 lbs less than the standard Chiron), and it comes with a fixed rear spoiler, and a lightweight titanium exhaust.

Inside, you get widespread use of Alcantara, anodized aluminum and titanium, while the wheels are specially designed to send turbulent air towards the rear diffuser. Also, this Chiron comes with Michelin Sport Cup 2R tires, which do a better job when it comes to lateral grip (they were developed by Michelin in collaboration with Bugatti).

Other highlights include the stiffer springs (by 65% front / 33% rear), revised dampers, and a new Sport+ drive mode.

Let’s just say that if you bought a Chiron Sport because of your fascination with track days and sharp-handling cars, you might want to do everything possible and trade it in for a Pur Sport – and yet, we’ve got 7 nicer Chirons than this.

#7. Chiron Super Sport

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport
Photo: WheelsAge
Speaking of no. 7, that’s where we are now, and I think things are about to get somewhat controversial. Hear me out. You’ve got the Super Sport, which is less rare than the Pur Sport at 80 units made (so 20 more than the latter), yet it’s a completely different type of hypercar.

The Super Sport is all about maximizing speed, while the Pur Sport is about being track-focused, and when you add it all up, the Chiron itself is all about speed, so one would argue that the Super Sport is simply put, Chiron at its finest.

Bugatti built the Super Sport after the introduction of their 300+ world record car, although unlike the latter, this doesn’t come with a stiffer, more rudimentary interior, but rather a luxurious one – as you’d expect from a standard Chiron.

Furthermore, the Super Sport packs the same output as the 300+, meaning an extra 100 horsepower compared to other variants. These things can get all the way up to 273 mph (electronically limited) and need just 5.8 seconds to reach 124 mph. Basically, it’s 0.7 seconds faster than the standard Chiron.

The Super Sport also happens to look different from any other Chiron, in case you haven’t noticed the sleeker, elongated rear end. Just stunning.

#6. Chiron Super Sport L’aura

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport L'aura
Photo: Bugatti
This is a 1 of 1 customer car, built as a pair with the version we’ll be talking about next, at no. 5. The point is, it exists because two Bugatti enthusiasts, a husband and wife, decided to get personalized his and hers Chirons, under the guidance of the company’s ‘Sur Mesure’ program.

In order to create this bespoke paint scheme (Rosso Efesto & Arancia Mira), Bugatti needed people to paint each millimeter of the car by hand, layer upon layer. Technically not the whole car, just the lines that run through it. The result is a livery that simply glows from all angles, reflecting the customer’s choice of name for the vehicle. By the way, ‘L’aura’ means ‘aura’ in English.

Otherwise, this is your run-of-the-mill Super Sport, meaning it packs 1,578 horsepower and a top speed of 273 mph, although I get the sense that this car looks better standing still than in motion.

#5. Chiron Super Sport Coup de Foudre

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport Coup de Foudre
Photo: Bugatti
When the husband of the person who ordered the Super Sport L’aura saw how well her project was coming along, he decided to have his own Super Sport transformed to match hers, sort of.

The transformation took seven months, with a new Sky View roof making its way into the car, together with a new visible carbon fiber finish, rocking a subtle 10% black color tint and French Racing Blue lines.

It’s more or less the same car as the L’aura, except the exterior is a little less flamboyant, which is why I’ve decided to rank it higher on our list. The last thing a Bugatti Chiron needs is an extremely vibrant colorway. Not that it looks bad with it, but it’s definitely overkill. This car already looks like a million bucks. Scratch that, three-to-four million bucks.

#4. Chiron Pur Sport Grand Prix

Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport Grand Prix
Photo: WheelsAge
If there’s one Pur Sport that deserves to be ahead of most Super Sports, it has to be the 1 of 1 Grand Prix model. It’s a unique car, and it’s got a tremendous specification. This is actually Bugatti’s first-ever Sur Mesure project, and the car is meant to pay homage to Louis Chiron winning the French Grand Prix in 1931, in his Type 51 (an enhanced Type 35) - that car also had the no. 32 displayed on its doors.

Other highlights pertaining to this Chiron include the two unique exterior colors, a hand-painted EB pattern for the front aisles, ‘32’ and ‘Grand Prix’ motifs inside, plus some black anodized aluminum for good measure on the center console, and red Alcantara.

The Pur Sport may not be superior to the Super Sport in my book, but this factory-spec 1 of 1 Pur Sport is a whole different beast. Maybe it would have deserved a spot in the Top 3. I don’t know. You be the judge.

#3. Chiron Super Sport ‘57 One of One’

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport '57 One of One'
Photo: Bugatti
Like the name suggests, this $4 million beauty is a unique car, and while it’s a customer-driven design (not factory), the way it pays tribute to the Type 57 SC Atlantic is pretty remarkable. This is hands down, one of the most beautiful automobiles ever designed by man, and it’s got a hell of a good story too.

The car belongs to a 70-year-old lady, who also happens to be a Bugatti superfan. She originally fell in love with the Type 57 SC Atlantic, which led to her ordering a bespoke Chiron of her own. Not only that, but the ‘57 One of One’ happens to feature the exact same color as that original Type 57 she initially fell for.

Other visual cues include the new grille with polished vertical lines and a thicker center spine, dual-tone five-spoke wheels (blue and polished chrome), plus a hand-drawn silhouette of the Atlantic on the underside of the rear wing.

As for the interior, you’ve got your ‘Gaucho’ leather upholstery, some hand stitching on the door panels (in the shape of the Atlantic’s silhouette), and a custom center console inlay.

I’ll be honest. If this car wasn’t so beautiful, I probably would have ranked it no. 4, moving up the Pur Sport Grand Prix. But just look at this thing.

#2. Chiron Super Sport 300+

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300\+
Photo: WheelsAge
Look, it’s not a bespoke Chiron, but it is one of the most expensive factory-standard ones at roughly $4 million. They made 30 units in total, featuring a slightly more powerful engine (extra 100 hp), increased top speed, a cool new paint scheme (carbon fiber and orange stripes), the same exhaust system as the Centodieci, longer ratios for the gearbox, optimized aero elements, and an overall length that’s been increased by 9.8 inches.

On paper, you could take this thing all the way to 300 mph (483 kph), and if you actually wanted to do that, the carmaker would welcome you to its Ehra-Lessien test track and allow you to unleash those 1,579 horsepower.

I don’t even want to think about how much these cars are going to be worth in a couple of decades’ time. If you’re lucky enough to catch one at auction today, you’ll need to spend over $5 million at the very least.

#1. Chiron Profilée

Bugatti Chiron Profilee
Photo: RM Sotheby's
Fancy name for a fancy spec. This Bugatti is so freaking rare, it’s literally impossible for anyone to purchase it, unless its current owner decides they’ve had enough of it, which is highly unlikely.

The Chiron Profilée is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, and it’s worth a staggering $10.7 million. You’re probably wondering why, since it seems to look just like any other Chiron, right? Well, look closer. This car features a bespoke design, where a sweeping fixed rear wing can be seen integrated into the body. This is also the first Chiron fitted with a woven leather finish inside, while the exterior color is dubbed Argent Atlantique – this is a one-of-a-kind color that will never be applied to any other Chiron model.

Other interesting titbits include the horseshoe-style wheels, and the name, actually. Profilée comes from one of Jean Bugatti’s first creations, a special Type 46 model known as the Surprofilée.

This also happens to be the very last Bugatti offered for sale from the Atelier in Molsheim, featuring the carmaker’s iconic W16 powertrain. How could it not be the greatest-ever Chiron?
