autoevolution's celebration month

2020 will not go down in history as humanity's worst year ever, as there have been plenty of those before.

Records will however show that it brought with it the biggest challenge our generation had to face. There's virtually no corner of this Earth left untouched by a plague that has completely reshaped our society - and probably more hurdles lie ahead.

But for the first time in months (and how dark those months have been, filled with fear and uncertainty), there seems to be light ahead. In a month's time, 2020 will be history and a new year will begin, hopefully bringing with it an end of the scourge and making this decade one worth living.

Historically, December has been a time for joy. Not even wars were powerful enough to dilute that warm feeling we get as Christmas and the New Year draw closer. How many stories of enemy soldiers spending Christmas together haven't we heard? How many journals detailing the hope each of them felt during this time of the year haven't we read?

2020 will have its Christmas too. Then the New Year will bring 2021 with it, and open the doors to a number of vaccines, new political leadership in key points around the globe, and, above all, the prospect of a new beginning.

2020 is ending, and we couldn't be happier that it does. For us here at autoevolution it's been as challenging as it was for all of you, our readers. Just like you, some of us caught the virus (myself included), others got depressed by the lockdowns, others worried all the time. But together we punched through it, and undoubtedly grew stronger.

There's only one month left in 2020, and we'll spend it not lamenting what was, but celebrating what will come. Despite all the troubles endured so far, and in anticipation of what’s to come, we here at autoevolution thus declare December 2020 to be Celebration Month. As such, we asked each of our editors to select a favorite topic and focus on that for the next four weeks. Look below to see who’s cooking what.

Finally, we thank you for being with us through all this, and here's to a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
