Just like Hyundai, Kia is also trying to level up its design language and sporting credentials. Like the i30 N and i30 Fastback, the South Korean automaker will tread along the same path with the Ceed GT and Proceed.
Spied on the same day on the Nurburgring dropping hot laps, the Ceed GT and Proceed will complete the compact hatchback’s lineup. But first of all, it should be mentioned the hotter Ceed won’t get the same kind of suck-squeeze-bang-blow as the i30 N.
The 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is the engine most likely to be used for this application, rated in the neighborhood of 200 horsepower. As for positioning, the Ceed GT is more than the i30 N Line but less than the i30 N as far as hotness is concerned.
Moving on to the Proceed, the production version of the concept with the same name is a combination between the i30 Fastback and the Ceed Sportswagon. As you can tell from the silhouette of the camouflaged prototype, the Proceed is a shooting brake which happens to exhibit the same trapezoidal exhaust tips as the Ceed GT.
In other words, the coolest model in the lineup should be available with the 200-horsepower engine as well, connected to either a dual-clutch transmission with seven gears or a six-speed manual. Michael Cole, the COO of Kia, describes the Proceed Concept-based newcomer as something “completely different” from the i30 Fastback.
Like the Ceed GT, the Proceed sits lower to the ground compared to lesser models in the family. That comes as a result of the different suspension setup, focused on handling rather than comfort.
It is anybody’s guess which of the two will be revealed this fall at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, but one thing is certain. Deliveries for both the Ceed GT and Proceed will start in 2019, and heaven only knows if either will arrive in the United States of America.
