autoevolution's Sea Month

Although they presently occupy the center stage of our modern society, ground-based vehicles are by no means the first mobility ideas humans came up with. In fact, at a time when the only way to go about your business over land involved walking or making use of animals, vessels of various types were hard at work on the water, advancing human civilization.

Having started as means to help people move about, boats and ships quickly became military assets, but also essential for trade. Every single major civilization of the ancient world (Egyptians, Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans) not only relied on naval transport for their immediate needs, but at times their existence depended on it. Later on, big empires (Spanish, British, French) were built and maintained with the help of seafaring vessels.

At the same time, people found they could enjoy their time at sea, and that’s how in time things like yachts, speed boats, or jet skis, were born. Submarines of all shapes and sizes came into existence, for warfare, exploration, or simple enjoyment, and a variety of other such tools for the same reasons.

The world of seafaring machines is today perhaps just as dynamic as the automotive one, and for large masses of people, equally as exciting. It is for this reason that the last month of this summer, August, will be Sea Month here on autoevolution, a perfect opportunity for us all to dive deep into this fascinating world.
