In a world often characterized by consumerism and excess, ridding ourselves of material possessions and moving into a tiny house can significantly improve one's life and feel incredibly liberating. Due to their compact footprint and affordability, tiny homes are seen as an excellent choice for young individuals and couples looking to buy their first home or for those looking to downsize and gain more financial freedom.
However, tiny houses have greatly evolved over the last couple of years, and the designs are now more diverse and advanced, making scaling down on square footage easier than ever, even for families with children. A beautifully crafted tiny home that is suitable for family life is the Cortes model developed by Rover Tine Homes.

The British Columbia-based builder specializes in building not only quality compact dwellings for year-round use but also luxury portable cottages and garden suites. All of their designs are built with incredible attention to detail and provide comfort and modern conveniences.

The Cortes is no exception. At 38 feet (11.6 meters) long, this is the lengthiest design in their lineup of mobile tiny homes and includes all the comforts you are accustomed to - shower, air conditioner, washer/dryer, modern kitchen appliances, electric heat, and more - combined with the warmth and coziness of a rustic cabin.

It features a well-thought-out three-bedroom layout that can be adapted for many different living situations, including family life, busting all misconceptions that tiny houses are cramped spaces and are not fit for growing families. As you can see in the photos, this house on wheels is actually not so tiny, and it is as beautiful and functional as a larger, more traditional brick-and-mortar home.

The house sticks to the regular 8.5 feet (2.6 meters) in length, but it features three slide-outs that extend the living space to no less than 374 square feet (34.8 square meters), offering great versatility and endless possibilities for making it a permanent family abode.

Once you step inside, it's very likely that you will forget you are inside a tiny house. The interior is incredibly commodious and welcoming, with a cabin-in-the-woods atmosphere created by the tongue and groove pine walls and ceilings, the timber framing around the windows and doors, and a slew of rustic touches. Moreover, the abundance of oversized windows, especially in the common living area, makes the interior feel even more spacious and open and allows residents to create a deeper connection with the outside nature, regardless of their natural surroundings.

The inclusion of three bump-outs, one in the living room and one in each of the two main-floor bedrooms, allowed the builder to make no compromises in terms of functionality and amenities.

The living room is one of the most spacious we've seen in a tiny home. Furnished with a comfy sofa, a matching armchair, and a couple of coffee tables, it's the ideal lounging space to kick back and relax after a long day. Moreover, it has windows on both sides, so residents can enjoy the beautiful views from any angle.

The English country-style kitchen boasts shaker-style muted green cabinetry and is all about incorporating signs of life, like potted plants and textured materials, into one of the most used spaces in the home, giving it a timeless appearance.

It is also fully functional, with modern appliances galore, ranging from a four-burner cooktop and stove to a dishwasher and full-size fridge. The washer/dryer combo unit is also incorporated under the quartz kitchen counter.

The space also integrates a sleek dining nook, which is an extension of the kitchen counters and comes complete with two stylish stools.

As for the sleeping arrangements, the Cortes has two bedrooms on the main floor, plus a lofted sleeping space. The downstairs bedrooms are located side by side, a placement made possible by the slide-outs, and are completely private havens of relaxation. One of the rooms can sleep two people in a full-size bed, while the other is fitted with a twin bed and would serve great as a children's room. Both have built-in wardrobes and nightstands, enhancing their functionality and making them look like regular bedrooms in a conventional house.

The loft lies above the bathroom and can be accessed via a built-in wooden ladder. It is spacious enough to fit a two-person mattress, but if you don't need an extra sleeping space, it can be used as storage space.

The full bathroom is another pleasant surprise of the Cortes tiny house. It has a big vanity that matches the kitchen cabinets, a toilet, and a fiberglass tub/shower combo, a feature that is very rare in compact dwellings.

Designed to be set up for more permanent living, the Cortes tiny home is built tough with a durable metal roof and metal siding with timber accents so it can withstand both summers and freezing cold winters. It is available for $179,900 (approx. US $133,300) and is a great example of how you can find joy in living large in a small space.
