In 2023, Porsche started to refresh the Cayenne lineup, but it waited until 2024 to complete it with the GTS version, which was considered by many the best of both worlds in terms of performance and accessibility.

In 2008, Porsche launched the GTS version of the Cayenne's first generation. The success was massive, determining the German automaker to continue offering such variants for the following sequels of its largest SUV. The three magic letters came from the Gran Turismo Sport designation, meaning that vehicles that sported it were designed for fast, long-distance travels in comfort and a luxurious ambiance. While this kind of vehicle didn't have the same performance as the top-of-the-range Turbo or Turbo S versions of the Cayenne, they could be faster and more luxurious than their lesser-equipped siblings. The German car manufacturer used this moniker on several other models from its lineup while all generations of its largest SUV were available in such a trim level. But the GTS was not just a Cayenne with fancy wheels and some decorations inside the cabin. It was a blend of performance and luxury craved by those looking for a fast car for long travels.

On the outside, the GTS sported a front fascia fitted with a broad black grille inside the bumper, covering most part of it, stretched from side to side and integrating the radar for the advanced safety systems in the middle and a pair of scoops on the sides. In addition, on the lower side, in the middle, Porsche added another air intake that cooled other components of the vehicle. Its dark-tinted HD matrix LED headlights were also unique among its siblings. These were unavailable on any other Cayenne version, including the Turbo and the Turbo S version.

From its profile, the piano-black trims around the wheel arches and the side sills emphasized the dynamic look of the SUV, while the 10-millimeter (0.4-inch) lower ground clearance compared to the rest of the Cayenne range made it stand apart. The automaker also added blackened trims around the windows and on the lower side of the door mirrors. Another unique feature of the vehicle was the 21-inch finished in anthracite gray, which was designed especially for the Cayenne GTS. Out back, under the bumper, the automaker replaced the previous black exhausts with dark bronze ones to further emphasize the facelifted version of the Cayenne's third generation.

The transformation continued inside the vehicle. There, Porsche installed a heated GT sports steering wheel. A race-tex material wrapped the cabin, while suede-like fabric covered the headliner, door cards, and the eight-way adjustable front sports seats. The high-bolstered areas were raised even more compared to the regular Cayenne lineup. Fronting the driver was a redesigned dashboard, which featured up to three displays: one in front of the driver, a second one for the infotainment system atop the center stack, and the third one on the passenger's side. Moreover, there was no analog tachometer anymore, which might enrage some customers. Another major change was for the gear selector, which was moved from the center console onto the dashboard next to the steering wheel.

Under its skin, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne GTS featured a chassis that carried over the technology from the Cayenne Turbo GT. It featured adaptive air suspension as standard, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), Porsche Traction Management (PTM), and the optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). Power came from a 500 PS (493 hp) (40 PS more than its predecessor) 4.0-liter bi-turbo engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sent power in all corners.
