Tesla Cybertruck might be sold out for the rest of the year, but the trucks on the roads are no longer a hot commodity. Not long ago, people were willing to pay more than twice the original price to get one from the grey market. However, the Cybertruck lost its shine, with hundreds of units listed on CarGurus at prices as low as $130,000.
Tesla Cybertruck was met with mixed feelings at the Delivery Day event last November. On the one hand, the polarizing pickup truck was the most-desired vehicle in generations. On the other hand, people could not move past the fact that the Cybertruck had underwhelming features compared to what Tesla promised in 2019. When the delivery started, Tesla amassed more than one million reservations. This implies that the waiting list was long enough for people to wait years before buying one.

This increased the Cybertruck's desirability, prompting Tesla to make arrangements to keep flippers at bay. Tesla took a page from traditional dealers' books and marked up the Cybertruck $20,000 from the get-go. It called it the Foundation Series package and added some accessories and perks to justify it. The most important item on this list, the FSD Capability, is still unavailable on the Cybertruck and won't be for a long time.

Tesla also introduced a no-resale clause in the sales contract, which most saw as a way to ensure the only one profiting from flipping the Cybertruck was the carmaker itself. This clause introduces a penalty for those reselling the Cybertruck without Tesla's prior approval, which starts at $50,000 and can get as much as the flipper's entire profit from the sale. However, there's little evidence that Tesla enforced this penalty. Instead, it blacklisted people who resold the truck for profit.

People wonder how long Tesla will keep selling the Foundation Series Cybertrucks and when they will be able to buy one at the advertised price. This is $69,990 for the AWD variant and $99,990 for the Cyberbeast. Seriously, nobody can answer these questions, and Tesla doesn't want either. It's safe to assume that the Foundation Series markup will last as long as Tesla can find people willing to pay $20,000 extra for the Cybertruck.

Even though the Cybertruck is sold out for the year, with the earliest delivery window sometime in 2025, people have lost the appetite to pay extra. Not long ago, you could hardly find a Cybertruck for sale. Those listed on various auction websites made national news, mostly because the prices were outrageous. Paying $250,000 for a Tesla was not something people had on their bingo cards.

However, the market cooled down just as fast as it overheated. In weeks, too many Cybertruck owners were trying to flip their vehicles. With the larger offer, prices dropped quickly below $200,000. However, they have now crashed down to Earth thanks to a healthy offer on the market. A quick search on CarGurus returned 131 Cybertrucks listed for sale, and there are other platforms where you might find others.

The lowest price is $129,900, but many are below $140,000, which seems like the sweet spot at the moment. This is for the Foundation Series AWD model, which costs $99,990 to order and a little more to deliver due to taxes and fees. Considering how fast the prices have dropped, many of these trucks will not find a buyer, and the owner will be forced to lower the price. And that doesn't even take into account the $50,000 penalty Tesla might want from them.
