Truck campers seem to be one of the most versatile additions to trucks since, well, the truck itself. But with the sheer number of manufacturers, let alone products, it’s hard to know where to look.
Ladies and gentlemen, what you’re seeing in the gallery and cover photo is nothing more than Project M. Really, that’s the name. But once you get to know the level of versatility and possible lifestyle you can lead because of this box on wheels, you won’t care much what it’s called.

Here’s a question for you. What makes a camper desirable? Most people will answer capable, light, inclusive of what I need, and of course, not some arm and a leg price. Keep reading to find out if M has what it takes to meet these needs.

One of the first thing to know about this camper is that it fits mid-size trucks, full-size trucks, and in late 2021, the company responsible for this creation, Four Wheel Campers, will be releasing a Project M variation meant for the Jeep Gladiator.

If you don’t know who Four Wheel Campers (FWC) is, it’s very possible you’ve seen their builds but just wasn’t aware that it’s an FWC. This team is one of the few camper companies that have been around since the early 70s, so experience and a whole lot of know-how is obviously found in this team’s past.

To make things a bit easier to understand regarding Project M you’ll get to know each of the three variations on their own.

Mid-Size Trucks

This variation of the M is suitable for 5-ft (1.52-m) and 6-ft (1.82-m) truck beds and will only run you a base price of $9,295. Yes, there are no zeros missing. You’ll see why soon enough. The shorter of the two bed sizes comes in with a weight of only 352 lb (159 kg), while the 6-ft bed camper is only 25 lb (11.3 kg) heavier.

The framing is composed of welded aluminum, a process that can be rather tricky due to the properties of the alloy but ends up being quite durable if done right. An exterior width of 69 in (175 cm), and an extra height, with the top down, of 37 in (94 cm) on top of your already existent truck height. Inside, a bed size of 81 in (205 cm) x 66 in (167 in) is suitable for two folks. With the top up, 58 in (147 cm) are added to your trucks rail depth.

Full-Size Trucks

For the full-size truck options, the FWC offers the larger option starting at $9,795 and fits, 5-ft (1.5-m), 6-ft (1.8-m), and 8-ft (2.4-m) beds. Respectively, each one comes in with a weight of 390 lb (176 kg), 420 lb (190 kg), 465 lb (210 kg) and is made using the same welded aluminum frame construction as its smaller brother.

With an exterior width of 75 in (190 cm), it comes in with more room for the options you’re able to add. A larger frame also allows for a larger bed, 81 in (205 cm) x 72 in (182 cm). With the top down, 39 in (99 cm) are added to you truck height, and extended, and extra 60 in (152 cm) plus your rail depth is all the space this model will occupy.

Jeep Gladiator

As for the Gladiator truck option, because it’s not official yet, FWC makes no mention of weight, but some information is revealed. It will be available for 5-ft (1.5-m) and 6-ft (1.8-m) bed options and right now is being projected with a price of $9,795, starting.

As far as dimensions are concerned, the same height as the full-size option is found, but includes the smallest frame width and bed size of all three options.

Features

Here’s where things get a bit tricky with the M. Only about ten options are standard and include front windows, fire extinguisher, smoke detector, CM alarm, vinyl pop-up liner, and insulated side walls and roof to name a few.

As for the extras that are available to you, the list includes about 40 different options to add to your camper, each one at an extra cost of course. Once you’re done adding a roof vent, toilet, bed mattress, roof rack, refrigerator and the likes, you’ll easily jump into the $15,000 range if you want a decently comfortable trip.

Still, even for that price, I think you’ll find Project M most pleasing for a whole lot of reasons. Even if you were to deck one of these out with nearly everything from the list of extras, you’ll still roll in around $20,000.
