Let's talk Alfa Romeo, shall we? Despite the badge having a special place in many aficionados' hearts, the real-world situation of the company falls below expectations. As part of this struggle, it looks like the Italian carmaker's new 8C supercar has been axed, but this can still be launched in the hearts of car lovers, as the rendering we have here comes to show.
The pixel portrait offers a balanced approach, one that mixes traditional Alfa elements (think: grille, wheels) with futuristic bits, such as the minimalist LED light clusters found at both ends of the beast.

The mid-engined layout features a cab-forward design, which should ensure the visibility sits at the top of the supercar class, while the "floating" front wheel pods look like they mean business as far as the aero work is concerned.

Speaking of downforce devices, the generous rear wing can be fully retracted to create a long, flat rear deck that should increase the top speed of the vehicle.

Then again, the stunning appearance of this contraption should come as a surprise - the concept was penned by Mirko Pavan, a 25-year-old designer who works for Pininfarina. Note that this concept was put together in the artist's spare time.

Returning to the real-world 8C badge, the latest reports on the matter date back to last month, with these talking about the supercar, which was supposed to land by 2022, having been put on hold indefinitely.

Then again, with Alfa Romeo being involved in the giant merger between Fiat Chrysler, its parent company, and Peugeot Citroen (the resulting entity will be the world's fourth-largest automaker), we'll have to wait and see how the future of the brand is shaped.

Meanwhile, Maserati, a Fiat Chrysler marque that is also making efforts to reach its true potential, has teased its upcoming mid-engined supercar, albeit without mentioning any tech details. Will this be part of the Trident brand's reinvention as a fully electrified brand? Probably. Will its platform serve for an Alfa Romeo sister car, as it happened with the Ferrari Enzo and the Maserati MC12? It's still too early to tell.
