"Go overboard" is not a phrase you ever want to hear when onboard a boat, but this is one of those rare cases. And it's exactly what Escapade, the latest concept from Gill Schmid Design, does: it goes overboard in the best way possible.
Escapade is a superyacht that lives up to the name, and it does so in very unexpected ways. It exists solely as a concept for the time being, but New York-based architecture firm Gill Schmid, which penned it, is convinced it could be built by the Dorries Yachts shipyard in Germany for "a unique owner." Take that to mean "very rich."

Escapade is a dream of the wildest, most bonkers, and awesome kind, showing why conceptual studies are so important in this particular field. They break the rules and set new limits for what can be achieved, and they bring innovations into focus, fleshing them out and testing their potential applicability in real life.

Whereas many superyacht concepts chose to bring innovation in areas like propulsion, efficiency, hull design, or luxury amenities, Escapade's interest is in wellness. Gill Schmid is no stranger to this type of project that focuses on an elusive feeling or communion with nature, having previously designed a see-through superyacht and another concept built around a display room for the hypothetical owner's favorite Ferrari. Talk about dreaming as big as possible.

With Escapade, the attention goes to wellness, so the 73-meter (240-foot) superyacht is like a floating oasis whose sole purpose for existing is that. As such, it features one of the most resplendent and spectacular beach clubs you'll likely see anywhere, whether on a real or an imagined boat, with two pools stacked, one on top of the other. If that's not enough bodies of water, there’s another pool forward and wraparound glazing that blurs the lines between the interior of the superyacht and the surrounding environment.

Duplex beach clubs are not a novelty in yacht design, though they remain a rarity, exclusive only to the most prestigious and expensive vessels. This one is even more impressive, as the suspended pool is an infinity, glass-bottomed one, surrounded by actual sandy strips and cabanas. We, normies, have to make do with actual sand on actual beaches, and we'll occasionally splurge on a beach cabana, but the world's multi-millionaires, hypothetical as they might be, get to craft their own private beach and then load it up on their superyacht.

The two pools on the beach club are connected by a grand staircase that then leads to the swim platform, thus offering guests a direct and gorgeous way of getting to – and into – the water. Fold-down glass bulwarks expand the available space directly onto the water, while reflective surfaces create the impression of a much larger footprint.

The foredeck pool is also an infinity one, full-beam, and surrounded by vast lounge areas, a firepit, and a gorgeous sunken seating area. There's a reason why the Escapade has so many bodies of water, and it goes beyond the designer’s desire to show off. The foredeck pool is for the use of the owner and the guests in the two VIP suites here, while the other six guests would have direct access to the beach club.

The owner gets a full-beam suite that can be cut off from the rest of the vessel for privacy reasons, as is standard with most vessels of this size. It features generously-sized living spaces, dual bathrooms, and walk-in wardrobes.

In keeping with the wellness and relaxation focus, the list of amenities for Escapade includes a large gym for guests, sauna and steam room, massage room, a hair salon, and a beauty bar. The designer also mentions – but doesn't picture – a gallery (for art, we presume), a cigar lounge for the gentlemen onboard, and a formal dining room, as well as vast outdoor lounging spaces and plenty of indoor areas for socializing. Total capacity onboard is for 12 guests and a crew of 16 that would attend to their every whim and desire.

For those guests for whom relaxation means a bit more than lounging in the sun or getting a blowdry and a massage, Escapade offers plenty of water toys. There's a 9-meter (30-foot) limo tender to ferry guests to and from port, four jet skis, and a 9-meter (30-foot) RIB for water adventures.

Gill Schmid Design doesn't get into details like the probability of Escapade being built anytime soon or any plans in that direction, so take the Dorries Yachts mention with a grain of salt. Escapade is a study into the possibility of turning a superyacht into a floating wellness center in a way that takes nothing in terms of the functionality and elegance of the vessel. It's a gorgeous superyacht with absolutely gorgeous amenities, is what we're saying – and it would be incredible to see it built someday. There's nothing wrong with dreaming, is there?
