Right now, after years in disarray and shamefully neglected by its parent company, Alfa Romeo is finally trying to come back to its glory days – in a contemporary setting.
The long-lived Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan and Stelvio crossover SUV have been thoroughly refreshed yet again and are looking unlike a compact executive saloon plus D-segment crossover SUV that appeared on the market in 2015 and 2016, respectively. There's also the new Tonale compact crossover SUV introduced in early 2022 as the brand's first new model in six years, plus the company's first-ever hybrid option. It's also sold as the related Dodge Hornet in America, and Alfa Romeo is expecting yet another new introduction in April 2024 – the Milano subcompact crossover SUV that's a direct replacement for the little MiTo and a sibling to other Stellantis models like the Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600e.

This little CUV will mark yet another premiere at Alfa Romeo because it will first appear with an electric powertrain, followed afterward by mild hybrid gasoline variants. Also, the Italians finally have something to crave for at the top – the revival of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale will be made in Milan by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera in just 33 units with either electric or ICE power.

The flagship supercar is based on the Maserati MC20 but obviously features heavy influences from the original 1967 model, so it's a bit disconnected from the greater lineup of the Italian automaker. That's not a bad thing, obviously, because Alfa wants to tap into its rich history and connect the past with the future. But if they only wanted to look into the latter, there's a quick proposal from across the imaginative realm of digital car content creators they might want to look at.

This virtual automotive designer goes by the petrolhead.ai signature on social media, but it's clear that his design projects are a little more than just simple AI-assisted scribbles. In fact, there's an entire collection of ideas that we could discuss, including a Ferrari Dino project, a 1990s FXX, a retro Alfa supercar, or a McLaren hypercar sporting the beloved orange hue. No worries, they're all embedded in the gallery above for our (guilty) viewing pleasure.

However, we chose the CGI expert's contemporary Alfa Romeo sports car concept because it's the most logical of the bunch. If and only if the modern 33 Stradale plus the Milano are great successes at the opposite ends of the lineup, perhaps Alfa Romeo will dare to rekindle its attraction towards two-door sports cars after it was left with a sour taste post the sales evolution of the 4C coupe and convertible series. So, what do you think? Would you drive a Tonale-inspired contemporary Alfa sports car if given the chance?
