During the 2023 Tesla Takeover event, Tesla owners may have established a new record with 170 electric vehicles performing a synchronized light show. The cars were arranged to showcase a Cybertruck silhouette, honoring the most anticipated Tesla launch of the year.
Tesla caused quite a stir in December 2021 when it launched the Light Show with the Holiday Update. What used to be a Model-X exclusive feature was made available to all Tesla models and soon became one of the most popular tricks a Tesla EV can perform besides the FSD. Now, the Light Show can be entertaining once or twice. Still, the ability to synchronize many Teslas to engage in the light show is truly what makes it, well, shine.
It wasn't without drama, though, as the first light shows ended with a few owners complaining that their headlights malfunctioned after a light show. Bizarrely, they could still perform a light show but not illuminate the road at night, which was their primary purpose. Tesla likely solved this issue with a software update because no similar reports were heard of in the past years. Even though the feature was abused with virtually every Tesla gathering out there.
It appears that the sky is the limit to how many cars can be synchronized into a light show. What started with a few evolved into monstrous light parties with an increasing number of Teslas synchronized to the music. Last December, the largest Light Show performance united 40 Tesla owners in Switzerland. Now, this was dwarfed at the 2023 Tesla Takeover event opening at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, California, where 170 Teslas were involved in a light show.
Tesla Club Austria and its partners Tesla Light Shows and Daren Yoong organized the customized light show for the event. The 170 Teslas were arranged to show a Cybertruck silhouette, honoring the most anticipated Tesla launch in years. Not only that, but they were synchronized to "The Final Countdown" music, symbolizing the imminent delivery start for Tesla's electric pickup. According to Tesla Club Austria, this was "the dopest way possible" to showcase the Cybertruck spirit.
About 1,500 fans attended the 2023 Tesla takeover, an event designed to bring the fans of electric vehicles together. This was the third year the Tesla "took over" the Madonna Inn area, making it the hottest place on Earth for Tesla fans and other EV-heads. Every major Tesla influencer attended the event hosting Elon Musk's mother, Maye Musk, as a keynote speaker.
As the light show suggested, this year's event was marked by the imminent delivery of the first Tesla Cybertrucks to early reservation holders. The electric pickup truck was, until recently, more like an urban myth than a real truck. With the Release-Candidate production underway at Giga Texas and Tesla promising a delivery event at the end of the third quarter, the Cybertruck will materialize soon.
