It’s summer out there, and it’s hot enough that in other circumstances the roads, beaches and cities would be crawling with people. Things being as they are though, we are left only with memories of the carefree days of our past and the hopes for a safer future.
For what it’s worth, the world seems to be getting to terms with living this way, and businesses all over the world are resuming operations close to normal conditions. In the auto industry car factories are back up and running, some auto shows are scheduled to go on as planned, and we’re finally getting the new car launches we have been waiting for all year long.
For Lexus, that means launching a car that would have been perfect to drive in this summer, the convertible variant of the LS 500.
Coming to a segment that is not all that lucrative, but essential for luxury carmakers, the car – which was shown for the first time at the 2019 Los Angeles International Auto – is finally ready to be shipped to dealers. And we now also know the price.
Powered by the line’s naturally aspirated V8 powerplant, the car is good for 471 hp and 540 Nm (398/e lb-ft) of torque. Its capabilities, along with its design, managed to get the Lexus LC 500 Convertible VIN 100001 $2 million at an auction earlier this year.
The thing that sets the car apart from its sibling, the roof, can be removed in about 16 seconds, at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 kph).
Lexus says the starting price for the 2021 Lexus LC 500 convertible is $102,025, which makes it just a tad more expensive than the permanent-roof variant. The carmaker will also be making a very limited, 100-units version of the car (VIN 100001 was based on this) called Inspiration Series, with exclusive visual and comfort appointments.
