The Japanese company has always been primarily oriented to small automobiles and big commercial vehicles. Still, it also had an exciting presence on the US automotive market's main scene – up until 2009. Concurrently with the big financial crisis, the brand withdrew from the passenger car market and focused on commercial and industrial operations.
But could they stage a comeback now that times are changing again? For example, the company has had a reasonably successful run with the D-Max pickup truck. It's not a model that they could bring to America to compete with the mid-size superstars like the Toyota Tacoma and others, at least not in its ICE-powered form. However, how about a potential EV?
Back in October, the rumor mill revealed the reports about an Isuzu D-Max with zero emissions were accurate, and the company seemingly confirmed the approaching introduction of the all-electric version, potentially called E-Max or D-Max EV. Of course, some people are more eager than others, and that's why a few decided to take matters into their own hands before the OEM could conclude its research and development process.
Naturally, some decided to use their CGI wizardry for that – as they are part of the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. More precisely, the good folks from the AutomagzPro channel on YouTube have some AI-assisted CGI thoughts about the upcoming Isuzu electric pickup truck – and they're not afraid to share them with us. By the way, at least two variants are presented in the unofficial video embedded below – one with a glowing Isuzu logo and another that feels directly inspired by the current iteration of the Mitsubishi Triton/L200.
Of course, we need to take all this with a grain of salt – as nothing is official just yet, and maybe Isuzu will just use the current D-Max styling for the EV to save up on development costs. However, if they implement a radical design like in the first version depicted here, maybe they also have a chance to bring back the Isuzu name to America. It's an exciting thought – this electric version would be a mid-size truck, and currently, the US is only focused on full-size EV pickup trucks.
With untapped potential, the EV mid-size pickup truck niche could quickly be taken by storm by an Isuzu D-Max EV looking rugged and stylish – it just takes a bit of courage to try something like this, kind of like Tesla did when they entered the Cybertruck bet. Oh well, I guess only time will tell if something like this could happen. First, of course, we need to see the Isuzu D-Max EV (or E-Max) come out officially to play – and then we'll decide if we like it enough to dream of it hitting the US market.
