Alfa Romeo recently posted some cryptic coordinates on Twitter (sorry, it's called X now), and people immediately found out where they led. If that's not enough, the parallel universes of vehicular CGI also chip in to present their vision on the matters.
The premium and sporty Italian carmaker is enjoying its five minutes of fame thanks to the recent rebirth – sales are soaring better than ever, and now the model roster has doubled in the span of a couple of years. More precisely, not long ago, they only had the Giulia mid-size sedan and Stelvio crossover SUV on sale.
Now they're both refreshed (again), and they were also joined by the compact Tonale – Alfa's first electrified model that has both gasoline and PHEV powertrain options. Even better, a new halo car is in the making – the limited-series Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, which is set to come with both V6 and fully electric powertrain choices. Oh, and of course, it's already sold out.
But more is coming – and this time around, there's no need to listen to the rumor mill. Instead, Alfa Romeo itself is teasing the eagerly-awaited next model. Recently, they revealed a set of coordinates on X (formerly Twitter), and those led to the Brennero Pass between Italy and Austria – thus confirming the numerous speculations that Alfa Romeo's next model is not a revival of the MiTo subcompact or Giulietta compact hatchbacks.
Instead, we are probably dealing with the company's version of one of Stellantis' most prized assets – the e-CMP-based subcompact crossover SUV. Everyone dwelling in Europe knows its derivatives, which include the Peugeot 2008, DS 3 Crossback, and the Opel Mokka. However, as of late, there are even more additions to the party, including the Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600e. They all have ICE and EV power under the hood, and it looks like Alfa is set to bring to life its first-ever mass-market EV in the form of the Brennero subcompact crossover SUV.
The powertrain choices are easy to make out – it could easily use the 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with up to 155 hp and maybe even the 1.5-liter diesel from the Peugeot 2008. But it will indeed also have access to Avenger and 600e's new 154-hp electric powertrain. All that remains to be established is the design, of course – and that's where the imaginative realm of digital car content creators seems to disagree vastly.
Some think that the upcoming Alfa Romeo Brennero will look mainly like the Fiat 600, Jeep Avenger, Peugeot 2008, DS 3 Crossback, and Opel Mokka – albeit with a front treatment that's all Alfa Romeo. On the other hand, the good folks over at the Q Cars channel on YouTube aim to daze and amaze the audience with a potential styling of their vision that completely discards the triangle-shaped grille tradition of Alfa Models. Do you like it?
