The Ford F-Series is a stalwart of the American road, having etched its place in the hearts and driveways of millions across multiple generations. If these trucks were any more American, they’d be playing the Star-Spangled Banner through their exhaust system.
While there is lot to be said about each individual F-Series generation, today we’ll be talking about the fifth-gen model, produced by the Blue Oval from 1967 up until 1972, featuring the same platform as its predecessor but sharper styling, a larger cab and more variety with regards to engine options.

It’s safe to say that for some people these trucks are nearly as appealing today as they were “back in the day”, and it’s all thanks to their vintage charm and no-frills demeanor. They continue to command attention and respect, whether restored or preserved. They also serve as a tangible reminder of a bygone era that many of us still look back on with fond memories.

These things were rugged and dependable, and we could certainly use some of those characteristics in our lives right now, in more ways than one.

Now, changes to the fifth-gen F-Series started arriving in 1969 when it received a new grille and a new 302 Windsor V8 option, but it wasn’t until 1970 that a mid-cycle update would come into play, resulting in a completely redesigned grille, new side marker lights, various trim changes and the arrival of the ‘Sport Custom’ specification to replace the ‘Custom Cab’ model.

What you’re looking at here is a 1972 F-250 Sport Custom pickup, getting auctioned off to the highest bidder featuring a 4x4 conversion (under prior ownership) and a replacement V8.

Visual highlights include a blue exterior, white cab roof, Styleside bed with a cargo compartment, receiver hitch, sliding rear window, spray-on bedliner, a Blackmax snap-on tonneau cover, Ranger-style bodyside trim, swing-away dual side mirrors, and a set of 16-inch wheels with 315/75 Toyo Open Country M/T tires.

You can obviously spot the lifted suspension from a mile away, while other mechanical goodies include the power steering and manually locking front hubs.

Move over to the interior and you’ll find a black vinyl bench seat with matching door panels, a JVC Bluetooth stereo, Ford-branded floor mats, 8-ball transfer case shift knob, custom subwoofer and amplifier, and a Grant GT steering wheel mounted on a Cadillac-sourced tilting column.

As for the engine, it’s a replacement 460ci V8 unit that’s been fitted with an Edelbrock air cleaner, a Crane Fireball ignition box, polished valve covers, and tubular exhaust headers with Flowmaster mufflers. As I mentioned before, this truck left the assembly plant as a two-wheel-drive example, but it now sends its power to all four wheels via a three-speed automatic gearbox.

Just how much power? That’s tough to say, because it really depends on the state and "date of birth" of the engine. The seller sadly doesn’t mention any output figures.
