Matching your luxury car with your luxury powerboat is the billionaire spin on matching your undies with your socks or various accessories to the rest of your outfit. It's not something that is a general recommendation, but a non-negotiable must.
So, with the introduction of the brand new Maserati GranCabrio Folgore EV, Maserati is introducing a powerboat to match. Maserati is not the first luxury automaker to delve into the industry of yachting, that much is certain, but it plans to make its first foray on the commercial sector a memorable one.

Lamborghini, Porsche, BMW, and Polestar also have machines for water transport inspired by some of their most successful designs on land. It's the super-deluxe offer for loyal customers of a brand who want – and can afford – to spend extra on standing out.

This isn't Maserati's first rodeo, either: the brand previously signed its name to the Multi70 trimaran, a 70-foot ocean-racing tri-hull sailing yacht that already boasts more accolades than fingers on both hands at regattas all over the world. But this is Maserati's first attempt for the commercial sector, a vessel designed for private use as a dayboat or a yacht tender.

Called the Maserati Tridente, this vessel is beautiful and sleek, proudly bearing the trident logo on the bow, with a carbon fiber hull painted in the most elegant shade of rose gold, and most importantly, an all-electric powertrain. It is designed to complement the GranCabrio Folgore in every way, and thus extend the Maserati experience on water.

The Maserati Tridente is not a yacht, so it bears nothing in common with the much-coveted, headline-grabber Lamborghini Tecnomar 63. Much like the Porsche dayboats, the Tridente is a people-hauler if used as a yacht tender, or the means for a perfect day out at sea when employed as a powerboat. It stands out as a Maserati product through its sleek design that bespeaks its DNA, though, to be fair, the huge trident logo on the bow surely helps with easier identification.

Designed in partnership with Vita, construction for the Tridente will take place with Hodgdon Yachts, a Maine-based yacht and tender specialist with more than 200 years of experience. The Tridente is based on Vita's flagship model called Lion, which uses the proprietary all-electric V4 propulsion system and which is built by Hodgon Yachts since April 2022.

But make no mistake, this isn't a Lion in sheep's Maserati clothing. Tridente actually boasts improved performance, which puts it in a class of its own.

Maserati Tridente is a 34-foot (10.5-meter) powerboat designed for lakes and coastlines. Power comes from electric motors totaling 600 hp and a 252 kWh battery pack. Maximum speed is 40 knots (46 mph/74 kph), with an estimated per-charge range of 43 miles (69 km) at a cruising speed of 25 knots (40 mph/46 kph). On the bright side, DC fast charging will get you on the water again in less than an hour.

Inside, the Tridente is just as fancy, with cream leather interiors and touchscreen controls. It offers seating for eight people, including two people at the controls in a pair of captain's chairs. Maserati doesn't say, but we assume the versatility of the original Lion layout is maintained. Lion can be configured for dining or acceleration, with seating on the U-shaped couch. Photos published by the automaker show only the latter option.

Features also include a sundeck and a bathing area aft, with a ladder for easy access to water and a shower. Below deck is a single room with an ensuite bathroom, which makes the occasional sleepover possible. This cabin is not shown in any of the materials released at the time of press, neither on the Tridente nor on Lion.

Maserati has pledged to electrify its entire fleet by 2028, in keeping with the current push for greener, less polluting vehicles that would (hopefully) stave off climate change.

Obviously, going greener doesn't mean having to ditch luxury, as the Tridente dayboat shows. If you're rich enough, you can afford to care about the environment and pampering yourself, and a purchase like the Tridente will let you live the one-percenter life with an easy conscience through noise- and emissions-free day cruises.

Maserati is already taking orders on the Tridente, with an estimated completion time of 10 months for each unit. We're in a sector where inquiring about pricing is the most gauche thing to do, so of course, there is no mention of one.

That said, buzz online has it that that a Maserati Tridente retails for some $2.6 million, presumably before customization. You wouldn't expect any less from a super-deluxe dayboat with the trident logo on it.

If you're more of a roll-on-land-type of person, rocker Damiano David from Maneskin and his cheekbones are here to argue there's a Maserati for every type of driver. Options abound, you only have to have the cash for them.
