The 2024 Coachman Travel Master Imperial Is Tailor-Made for Luxurious Adventures

For this type of adventurer, Class A motorhomes are the best choice in terms of offering the ideal blend of performance and comfort. To them, UK-based specialist Coachman dedicates their first-ever Class A motorhome, the Coachman Travel Master Imperial.

These days, it feels like everyone and their mother are either living on the road or considering it. At the very least, they're fantasizing about it or casually observing from a distance. With ever-increasing numbers of people ditching the 9-to-5 rut and brick-and-mortar homes in favor of remote working and living in homes on wheels, it's always nice to know that the one thing this market segment doesn't lack is options.

The Master Imperial is one such option, but for those for whom living out of a van, a converted bus, or even a tiny home feels too… mundane.

The Coachman Master Imperial, unveiled officially at the 2023 edition of the NEC Show last month, is not the biggest nor the most expensive motorhome on the market. Just to get that out of the way. It pales in comparison to landyachts that can fit a passenger car inside their belly garage or the monster units that slide out and up and double the living space in almost a blink of an eye.

But that doesn't make the Master Imperial any less luxurious.

With almost 8 meters (26.2 feet) in total length, the 845, which is the only model from the announced Master Imperial range, offers sleeping for four people, a gorgeous lounge decked in genuine leather, a full kitchen, and a split bathroom midships. It's a home on wheels, but with obvious premium touches that turn it into the perfect solution for anyone who craves "adventure, comfort, and style" in equal measure. As long as they have the cash for it.

The Master Imperial wants to be a luxury product without tip-toeing into outrageous territory, and it's successful at it. Based on a Mercedes-Benz 5,500-kg (12,125-lb) Al-KO chassis, it offers a 170 bhp engine and automatic gearbox, so it's sturdy enough to go wherever your sense of adventure might take you. Or almost anywhere, at least.

The interior is well-compartmentalized and elegantly finished. The seats in the driver's cab swivel to join the double benches in the lounge, thus creating a very cozy nook for hosting dinner parties – even larger ones – game nights or movie nights.

A fold-down bed is tucked away in the ceiling of the driver's cab. It's a welcoming alcove with a premium mattress ensuring maximum comfort at night, but it stays out of the way during the rest of the day.

At the opposite end of the motorhome is the main bedroom, with an island queen-size bed and a lot of storage options, including around and under the bed. The bathroom is right next to it, divided in two by the narrow hallway. There's a spa-like shower on one side and a room with a sink with an oversize vanity and the toilet on the other.

The kitchen is compact but specced just so you have everything you need to cook for the entire family. There's a three-burner gas stove, a large tower fridge with freezer, an oven and a grill, and more than enough storage and counter space. Corian kitchen surfaces match the Nordic Oak theme used throughout, so even if you're not the kind to spend too much time actually cooking in the kitchen, you can still enjoy it. Visually.

The standard spec includes Alde wet central heating, underfloor heating, and air-conditioning. Outside, you get an oversize, 5.5-meter (18-foot) automated Thule awning so you can expand living space outside – not that you really need it, to be fair.

A standard 150W solar panel mounted on the roof offers some relief from reliance on the grid when staying longer at camp, and there's more than enough storage outside to pack all the essentials, regardless of how long you plan on being gone. The rear pass-through garage is a special standout, offering room to fit at least two bicycles.

In the driver's cab, the highlight is a 10.25″ MBUX Infotainment system with touchscreen and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, DAB Radio, and Satellite Navigation, and the comfortable leather seats with the Coachman logo stitched on the headrests.

The Master Imperial motorhome starts at £197,150 (approximately $246,000 at the current exchange rate) and can go as high as £210,000 ($262,000) once you add semi-customization and extra features like remote control and more off-grid capabilities. The unit shown at the NEC Show, for example, was a little over £200,000 ($25,000).

Whichever way you turn and look at it, that's a lot of money to pay for an RV. But that's why they call it a luxury product, and, as one, it's really nice, elegant, and tastefully done.
