Tesla is not exactly fond of attending motor shows. But this year seems different. They were present at the 2023 Shenzen Auto Show in China. And they have recently announced that they will be at the IAA Mobility Show in Germany.
The first time Tesla participated in a car show was 2006, when they revealed the first-gen Roadster. They were also present at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show with the single purpose of debuting the Tesla Model 3. Since China is the biggest market for the electric carmaker, they also went to the Shanghai Auto Show in 2021.

Tesla would usually rather unveil new models online than take the trouble to take them to a motor show booth. But this time, it is different. It might be a step in shifting to a whole new marketing strategy. The move comes just a few months after Elon Musk said during a shareholders meeting: "Let's try a little adverting and see how it goes." And that's precisely what they are doing right now.

This year's event in Munich is set to run between 4-8 September, and the American carmaker is reportedly going to be there. The organizers of the show confirmed with Automobilwoche, a sister publication of Automotive News Europe, that Tesla will present their electric cars.

Because they don't have a Public Relations department, Tesla can only confirm the participation via Elon Musk. The company's CEO has not said anything yet. Furthermore, no one knows which models they will be taking to the IAA Mobility Show.

They will be on display in the open air at Munich's Konigsplatz. The Tesla booth will cover around 200 square meters (2,152 square feet). It is not that much for a car show, so we should not expect the company's entire lineup to be there.

Tesla is currently selling the S3XY lineup, consisting of the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y. The Tesla Roadster has been on its way for years, and the last time we heard of it was when Elon Musk sent his car, a previous-gen Roadster, to space. The Tesla Roadster was revealed at Tesla's first attendance at a car show, back in 2006 in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, the first Cybertruck rolled off the assembly line of Giga Texas, four years after Elon Musk revealed it in a show that awed the crowd attending and everyone watching online. The unbreakable windows of the Cybetruck simply shattered after getting slammed with a baseball bat and a metal ball. The Cybertruck in production form might be in Munich this upcoming September.

So far, carmakers such as Renault, Opel (the only Stellantis brand to attend), and Ford, but also Chinese brands such as Dongfeng and BYD, will be in Munich this fall.

The German motor show, organized alternatively with the show in Paris, moved from Frankfurt to Munich in 2021, in an attempt to attract more visitors.
