If there's one thing most of us can agree on, it is that all luxury vehicles should feature a black paint finish with some occasional chrome touches. However, our new favorite Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has a different hue, and we absolutely love it.
A squeaky-clean presentation, it has RDB LA to thank for the makeover that's bound to make it visible wherever it goes without stepping over the OTT line. This Mercedes-Maybach S 680 has a silver paint finish that covers its entire exterior and retains the OEM emblems all around, including those on the rear pillars that are exclusive to Maybachs.
For a bit more appeal and some well-deserved contrast, the roof has a black look. As for the wheels, they also came from the aftermarket world, signed by the same tuner in this case. You may have also noticed that the luxury sedan in question has fewer inches between its belly and the road, and while that may make it look sportier, it also affects comfort, especially on longer journeys.
Such a build deserves an all-white interior, though we wouldn't mind if it had black high-end leather, either. However, the cockpit is not visible at all in the pictures that RDB LA shared on social media earlier in the week, and we cannot even get a glimpse of it due to the reflections and the dark tinted windows that provide some well-deserved privacy to those sitting at the rear, as this is, after all, a chauffeured limo.
Whoever holds the wheel can make the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 hit sixty miles an hour (97 kph) in just 4.5 seconds, according to the official spec sheet of the car. This model uses a 6.0-liter V12 engine with twin turbocharging, which produces 621 horsepower (630 ps/463 kW) and 664 pound-feet (900 Nm) of torque. The thrust and output are channeled to the all-wheel drive system via an automatic transmission with nine gears.
Mercedes-Maybach's S 680 is priced accordingly, with a brand-new copy kicking off at $229,000 before destination in our market. Factor in some options, and it is bound to become way more expensive. But could also get one from just under $200,000, if you're lucky, as long as you're willing to live with a V8, with the S 580 variant carrying an MSRP of $193,400 for the 2023 model year.
This one packs a 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine with mild-hybrid tech, which produces 496 hp (503 ps/370 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque, allowing the car to sprint to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, two tenths slower than the S 680. The S 580 returns 15 mpg in the city and 25 mpg (15.7-9.4 l/100 km) on the highway, and the S 680 is thirstier at 12 and 20 mpg (19.6-11.8 l/100 km), respectively.
