Mitsubishi has started the final countdown. Their latest pickup truck, the Triton, is inching closer to debut. It is going to happen towards the end of the month. What do we know so far about the new generation?
Carpazzi caught several Mitsubishi Triton (L200) test mules starting last year, some of them even testing on American public roads. Only this month did the pickup truck come out with its production body.

This past spring, in March, Mitsubishi revealed the XRT Concept at the 2023 Bangkok International Motor Show. That one previewed the upcoming sixth generation of the Triton, known as Rodeo, Colt, Storm, Magnum, Strakar, and others, depending on the market. Still, the L200 designation remains the most common. But Mitsubishi is now using the Triton name to highlight the personality of the model.

The Japanese manufacturer resumed the teasing campaign this past June, with revealing photos and videos that left little to the imagination.

Now, a new teaser video, uploaded on YouTube just a few hours ago, claims that we are dealing with a completely new model with a different ladder frame, new double-wishbone front suspension, and leaf spring rear suspension. "Our engineering spirit is no compromise," says Chief Product Specialist Yoshiki Masuda.

The new Triton should be more capable than ever, if we are to believe the promise in the video, which also reveals that the pickup truck has been tested in various extreme conditions. "A new era begins," it says.

And should be so, because they also announced that the pickup truck would be powered by a newly developed diesel engine, designed to reduce friction loss without compromising the output. It remains to be seen if the Japanese carmaker refers to a revamped diesel, one of the four available worldwide, depending on the market, or they are actually referring to one that is completely new.

Completely new will be the design of the future Mitsubishi mid-sized pickup truck, that’s for sure. Coming to replace a generation that has been around since 2014, the new one will be larger, more capable, and obviously more modern, sporting better road manners as well.

So far, spy photos only revealed a double cab body style. But, just like the outgoing generation, it should come in a single-cab variant as well.

Previous teasers also help us get an idea about the interior of the Triton. There will be a central infotainment system screen located up on the dashboard. A digital instrument cluster is also part of the plan.

Save the date! The Mitsubishi Triton will be revealed on July 26, at an event held in Bangkok, Thailand. First customers to get the Ford Ranger and rival will be those in Thailand. The pickup truck will subsequently be delivered worldwide.
