Carlos Pecino, the virtual artist known as colorsponge, and Ash Thorp, aka ashthorp on social media, are behind M.H.C - a virtual design studio. Now, they're taking their passion to the next level.
"M.H.C is a purely passion-driven partnership between Ash Thorp & Colorsponge fueled by a mutual and immense adoration of automotive evolution + design," reads their header. And don't think this collaboration is young or inexperienced – aside from their personal projects, the ones tagged under the M.H.C banner have reached number 24. Two dozen virtual ideas may not sound like much in this day and age where haste is a decisive feature that drives our everyday lifestyle.
But it's enough to get them to the next level – turning their virtual designs into reality. Just recently, the Make Haste Corporation, together with Street Bandito and Industry Garage, announced they will try to rock SEMA's 2023 edition with 'The Legacy.' No, it's not the design of 'The Batman II Batmobile – even though Ash Thorp was the creative mind behind the first movie's Batmobile and Batcycle.
Instead, together with Street Bandito and Industry Garage, they decided this dark and menacing one-off build project needed to reinvent the legacy of the classic Datsun 240Z (aka Nissan Fairlady Z) sports car. "This exceptional build is not just a digital concept—it's being brought to life and will make its grand debut at SEMA 2023! The realization of such unique and exclusive builds demands an immense amount of dedication, skill, and trust. And we had our sights set on something truly extraordinary from the beginning," explains the team.
Over the years, we have seen many interpretations of the iconic Datsun 240Z – but this one is among the most extreme. "Our goal was to reimagine the classic Datsun Fairlady Z, an automotive icon with a legacy of its own. With a deep respect for its original lines and shapes, we took a fresh approach to make it uniquely our own." And it seems they also decided to make it an EV in the process! Well, it remains to be seen if they will make it on par with a Tesla Model 3 Performance or a Plaid, but one thing is for sure – this thing cannot be unseen.
By the way, this is just the start of the rendering-to-reality journey, and the teams involved promise to deliver constant updates. Interestingly, the timeframe is quite ambitious as usually, many aftermarket outlets start their projects from the beginning of the year, even when they are less ambitious than this one. Hopefully, they will get through all the hurdles without a hitch, turning an unsuspecting Datsun 240Z into an EV restomod like never before, complete with the looks of a Batmobile and all the tricks of a modern supercar.
