It's not every day that you see a new Alfa Romeo. In recent years, we have only seen the Giulia sedan, Stelvio luxury sports crossover, and, most recently, the Tonale compact crossover SUV.
So, an Alfa Romeo supercar is an even bigger party, especially since the last one was introduced by the brand some 16 years ago, in 2007. Back then, the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione featured a 4.7-liter Ferrari/Maserati V8 engine, and just 829 examples were produced – 500 coupe units, the rest being 8C Spiders.
After that, Alfa Romeo did produce another sports car, the 4C, but the mid-engine model with coupe and Spider body style was smaller, nimbler, and less exotic, with almost 10,000 units produced between 2013 and 2020. A little later today, though, history will open a new chapter in Alfa Romeo's sports car story by introducing their latest supercar.
For what it's worth, unlike other carmakers, the iconic Italian automaker has kept well under wraps most details about their latest introduction. No leaks have surfaced so far, and the rumor mill doesn't even know if the model will be called' 33,' '333' as a reference to the hypothetical production quota, or 6C like the 8C Competizione to nominate the potential use of a V6 instead of the storied V8.
According to some folks, this Alfa Romeo isn't entirely unique as it will feature the underpinnings of the Maserati MC20 and potentially also its twin-turbo 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 engine. Rumors speak of around 800 hp on tap, much more than MC20's 621 horsepower, but that's because electrification is also coming into play. Alas, do remember that all this is pure speculation.
Luckily, all mysteries (or at least most of them) will be solved later today when the Alfa Romeo brand ceases with the irrelevant teasers and officially takes the wraps off its supercar during an event scheduled on Wednesday, August 30, at 5:00 PM CEST, which is 9:00 AM CST (11:00 AM Eastern). However, that doesn't mean we should just wait and see what happens.
Instead, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has taken responsibility, and one of its pixel masters has rendered Alfa Romeo's new supercar one last time before its official reveal. The idea was gestating for a long time in the author's dreams, but only recently did he find the time to finish it – that's why he is not so confident the Alfa Romeo '33' might look exactly like this.
But the virtual artist tucked behind the AscarissDesign moniker on social media always has a big craving for something Italian and cool, and, of course, Alfa Romeo never fails to surprise – in the most positive ways. All in all, this is not a bad effort at all, especially given the numerous subtle changes that can be viewed in the making-of video embedded below. So, do we give it our CGI approval or not?
