Just hours after announcing that the Koenigsegg Gemera is getting Jesko’s V8 engine option, here it is, in production form, to blow your mind. The Swedish carmaker did the “heart” transplant.
It didn’t take long for Koenigsegg to unveil the 2,300-horsepower megacar that was initially supposed to be powered by only a 2.0-liter three-cylinder engine, known as the Tiny Friendly Giant, integrated into a hybrid system, for a total of 1,700 horsepower (1,241 PS/1,268 kW).

But that was not something that Koenigsegg was willing to resort to. They wanted more for their first four-seater. So they squeezed in Jesko’s 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8.

To handle all of the extra power and torque, the Gemera ditches the Hydracoup Direct Drive for the nine-speed Light Transmission (LST), specifically designed for the Jesko, in a retuned form. Retuned is the powertrain as well, with reworked turbos and exhaust, setting up a "hot V" (HV) configuration, with the exhaust now coming out of the rear decklid.

A new Radial Flux (a cross between radial and axial) electric motor is working alongside the V8. Dubbed “Dark Matter,” it is the world’s first six-phase automotive-grade electric motor. It weighs just 39 kilograms and develops 800 horsepower (810 PS) and 921 lb-ft (1,250 Nm) on its own.

The total system output goes all the way to 2,300 horsepower (2,331 PS/1,715 kW) and 2,028 lb-ft (2,750 Nm) of torque.

These record-breaking figures make the Gemera HV8 "the most powerful and extreme production car on the planet," the Koenigsegg rep proudly say. Christian von Koenigsegg tells that the team could just not resist the possibility of incorporating the features and benefits of the Gemera production model, a move that led them down what they call "an exciting development path."

The Gemera production version also comes with four-wheel drive with torque vectoring for each wheel.

Occupants will benefit from the presence of the heated and electrically adjustable seats, a 200-liter storage space, Apple CarPlay connectivity, roof rack mounts. The latter one must be an aerodynamics killer, though! But the Ghost Package with aero tweaks is probably ready to takle that.

Meanwhile, the 2.0-liter hybrid Gemera gets 1,700 horsepower (1,724 PS) and 2,581 lb-ft (3,500 Nm) of torque, figures that seem pretty modest when compared to those of the V8 variant, but still stunning for a car that can sit up to four people and their luggage.

The Gemera will roll off the assembly line of the all-new Koenigsegg Campus in Angelholm, Sweden. It is a 11,000-square meter "Gripen Atelier," as the carmaker calls it and it will be ready to kick of production at the end of 2024.

First customers will get their new Koenigsegg Gemera, one of the 300 to be produced, in early 2025. As previously announced, those who want to go home with a V8-powered Gemera will have to pay the extra $400,000.
