The UK-based Japanese commercial vehicle producer's division has commissioned the unique vehicle with many ARB parts as a 'showstopper' to be displayed at various events.
The purpose-built pickup truck is a 'New-Look Isuzu D-Max V-Cross' model, all dressed in a catchy hue called Valencia Orange. By the way, Isuzu, a Japanese company founded back in 1916 (its UK business officially opened its doors in 1987), prides itself on only making commercial vehicles, so they are "the pickup professionals (that) focus on making our pickups tough, strong, and built to go the distance."
However, the Isuzu D-Max 'Expedition Edition' might be slightly biased toward turning into a fashion icon for overlanding enthusiasts. After all, the pickup was equipped with only the best stuff from a renowned brand known to off-road camping enthusiasts for years – ARB. Drawing inspiration from the 'Basecamp' model, the Valencia Orange 'Expedition Edition' takes everything to new heights, albeit at a lower price point.
First and foremost, the show prototype will be featured in front of a live audience for the first time at The Game Fair, located at Ragley Hall (Warwickshire), on July 28 - 30. From then on, it will appear at various events throughout the year with its extensive range of accessories. As far as we can tell, this build is unique, but customers will get the chance to go home or directly to the campsite with something similar.
Developed in collaboration with ARB UK, the show vehicle is also a rolling advertisement for the wide selection of high-performance enhancements for Isuzu D-Max trucks, which includes "innovative slide-out kitchen drawer systems, premium rooftop tents, versatile awnings, and top-of-the-line camping gear." There are also roof racks, recovery gear, canopies, and more. Isuzu's dealerships will have all these accessories (and more), so customers can select any of them and get their D-Max pre-fitted "with accessories tailored to their needs."
As far as the 'Expedition Edition' is concerned, the prototype D-max was fitted with a wide array of ARB's tailored accessories, such as a special-color canopy, a matching roof tent, an awning, a fridge, plus a drawer set that is not only versatile but also fitted with a kitchen unit, among other stuff. By the way, Isuzu mentioned that a vehicle kitted with the set of the 'Expedition Edition' would be more affordable than an AT35 Basecamp. But that does not mean it's going to be cheap.
As such, after factoring in the price of the vehicle itself, adding the accessories might still cost an arm and a leg. For example, the ARB Outback Drawer set with Kitchen and Roller Floor is no less than £4,420, while the ARB Ascent Hardtop Gullwing Remote Locking is £3,097.50, and the Esperance Roof Tent Hard Shell is £2,384. And do keep in mind that all these prices may be RRP (UK's equivalent of MSRP), but they are excluding VAT!
