There's a real hint of truth when you hear people say that they don't build pickup trucks the way they used to. It's not just blind hyperbole, and this beautifully preserved 1985 Dodge Ram 3500 Prospector Royal SE is a classic case in point. But there's a much bigger story behind this old truck besides looking more dignified than its modern counterparts.
Currently, for sale on eBay out of Oakland, California, this 1985 Ram 3500 crew cab dually is one of the last of its kind in reasonable condition anywhere in the world. Most of these beauties spent their lives on construction sites and hauling very large loads until their frames bent in half or their body panels rusted back into the Earth from which it came.

In a time before pickup trucks were required to be equipped like Maybachs in order to have any street cred, this 1985 Prospector edition Ram dually came equipped with every cool feature the average 80s passenger car simply didn't. Things like a two-tone Golden Brown Metallic over Cream paint job exclusive to the Prospector package.

Other goodies came in the form of a full AM/FM radio with a cassette player. Many cars only had base radios these days, along with power windows. The seats in these Prospector Ram Trucks are made with higher quality cloth and soft-touch materials than lower model Ram trucks from the period. There's also a painted and polished front grille, painted bumperettes, and a polished tailgate.

Under the hood of this truck is not the venerable Cummins diesel engine. Instead, it's a 360 cubic inch 5.9 liter 16-valve gasoline V8. It's all fed through a Chrysler 435 four-speed, heavy-duty manual. A chunky Dana 70 rear axle sits underneath the rear bed.

This truck was used as promotional material by Dodge to show off the muscular and brawny body that the Cummins engine was due to be fastened to when it went on sale the very same year this truck was manufactured. It wasn't even titled and driven on its own until 1987. It can be all yours if you can beat the current eBay listing offer of $11,400 before it closes tonight at 10:07 pm.
