Hennessey has been lifting the spirit of various Dodge Durango SRT Hellcats for a few years. Not that the super SUV needed any mods, as it can rub shoulders with the exotic crossover establishment without any outside intervention.
Dodge's Durango SRT Hellcat has 710 hp (720 ps/530 kW) on tap and 645 pound-feet (875 Nm) of torque. Its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 rockets it to 60 mph (97 kph) in three and a half seconds on its way to a 180 mph (290 kph) top speed. The quarter-mile time is 11.5 seconds.

With Hennessey's H1000 upgrade package, the output increases to, you guessed it, 1,000 horsepower. That's 1,014 metric horses or 746 kilowatts, and the thrust now stands at 969 pound-feet (1,314 Nm). As a result, it can take a swing at the supercar establishment in a straight-line battle, and it might just come out victorious with a perfect takeoff.

But what did the Lone Star State tuner do to it to obtain that much thrust? Well, an upgraded supercharger is on the list, alongside new fuel injectors, a ventilation system, and a filtration system. They also paid extra care to the crank damper pin assembly, changed the spark plugs, and gave it fresh software. Oh, and the numbers are verified on the dyno.

Now, as amazing as the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat with Hennessey's H1000 package may be, it can easily find some worthy opponents looking to make a name for themselves. Case at hand, this white copy was recently subjected to a couple of quarter-mile runs against something that's very different yet also very powerful: a Ford F-150 Lightning.

Mind you, while the Durango SRT Hellcat relies on dead dinosaurs for its neck-snapping power, the F-150 Lightning is all about the future of the automobile, as it packs battery-electric power. The zero-emission pickup benefits from the advantage of instant torque and is an all-stock copy in this instance. Pricing for a brand new one starts at just shy of the $50,000 mark if you exclude the destination and dealer fees and exceeds $92,000 for the range-topping Platinum.

As hot as it may be, the Blue Oval's all-quiet workhorse probably cannot give a black eye to the high-riding Dodge. That's what we think, anyway, though. As we all know, beating an electric vehicle in a straight-line battle is easier said than done. Thus, these two put their money where their mouths are at the Pennzoil Proving Grounds and engaged in not one but two quarter-mile battles, which were filmed for the internet to watch.

So, you are one mouse click away from finding out if the F-150 Lightning should've stayed put or if the Durango SRT Hellcat never stood a chance. Did you nail it?
