Since the current second-generation Acura NSX Type S is acting as the swan song not only for the hybrid version but potentially also for the entire series as an ICE representative, it’s time to collect. And if you say gas, then it’s the first generation.
If the hints are correct, then Acura’s NSX lineage will directly show the Japanese company’s transition from gasoline to hybrid and eventually to all-electric powertrains. That means each iteration has an inherent collectability potential without even considering all the other bits and pieces that make the NSX a great sports car.
So, if anyone wants a gasoline-powered NSX, better shell out the cash needed to own the first generation. Like this one, for example, shown here via Bring a Trailer user BramM. The 41k-mile (70,000 km) 1997 Acura NSX-T 6-Speed is of course a Targa top version and allegedly is one of just 50 units produced in Formula Red over Onyx leather for the model year.
Power is provided by the upgraded 3.2-liter V6 engine, as Honda/Acura introduced a major performance update for worldwide markets that very same model year. So, the displacement surged from 3.0 to 3.2 liters and additional modifications brought a 20-horsepower surge from 270 to 290 ponies. This only affected models with manual transmissions and luckily this unit also features another big improvement, as the engine was paired with a six-speed stick shift.
Along with the usual factory highlights, such as the matching body color removable roof panel, those lovable pop-up headlights, or the Bose audio system, the 1997 Acura NSX-T seen here also comes with a raft of modifications. Chief among them would be the Pride Exhaust system, staggered 17- and 18-inch Fikse Wheels, or a BlackVue front and rear dash camera system.
Although there’s also a clean Carfax report and the removed factory exhaust setup, nothing is as easy as it seems. As such, this NSX-T now dwells in Niagara-on-the-Lake, a town in Southern Ontario, Canada. Additionally, there are also six more days left on the auction clock and already the current highest bid has surged to $85k!
