Rare 22k-Mile 1998 Acura NSX-T Wants to Stick-Shift Mesmerize Its Second Owner

The Acura (Honda for the rest of the world) NSX was born as a “monumental” sports car design, according to one Gordon Murray (of McLaren F1 fame) and the original lived a fruitful life for no less than fifteen years. Naturally, with such a big span came the responsibility to derive the feisty mid-engine coupe in as many variants as possible.

Among the many stars of the first-generation show there was also the NSX-T, the removable Targa top variant that basically replaced the base coupe body style almost completely in North America after 1995. As such, we shouldn’t be surprised by this 1998 apparition, even though it also comes with the panache of being a rare commodity because it was one of just six U.S.-spec examples dressed up in Berlina Black and with a tan leather interior for that model year.

Even more importantly, according to the description provided by the consigner, this unit has remained under single ownership until earlier this year when it was taken over by the selling dealer. As such, it comes with a clean Maryland title, an equally pristine Carfax report, and just 22k miles (around 35,000 km) on the odometer.

Naturally, one can assume the NSX-T not only looks gorgeous but also drives well thanks to 3.2-liter C32B V6 engine that was probably very happy to provide 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft (346 Nm) of torque to the rear wheels through the purist six-speed manual transaxle gearbox back in the day.

As far as we can tell, the dark exterior presents itself in great condition and highlights include not just the removable top so the wind can blow in the hair all summer long, but also the pop-up headlights, rear wing, dual exhausts, or the staggered 16- and 17-inch front / rear wheels.

Inside, the Acura lives up to its premium reputation and the choice of colors is quite elegant indeed. The tan leather seat upholstery is neatly contrasted by a series of black components, while the driver and passenger will also find creature comforts such as the powered seats, automatic AC, or cruise control.

With all things taken into consideration, we shouldn’t be surprised that with just a few more hours on the auction clock the bidding has taken off and it is already way past the $80k mark at the time of writing.
