It took Mercedes half a year to bring the Maybach EQS 680 SUV to the United States, but the electric luxury crossover is finally on sale nationwide.
Representing Maybach's first venture into the world of electric vehicles, the EQS 680 SUV is offered in a single specification. As you already know, it packs numerous amenities, as it is a Maybach-branded car, after all.
Pricing starts at $179,900, excluding the $1,150 destination and delivery charge, or $75,500 more than the entry-level Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ SUV. The typical Maybach styling sets it apart from the rest of the family, and the visual presence can be boosted with the optional dual-tone paint finish complete with a filigree pinstripe.
Some of the highlights include the 21-inch alloys, air suspension, rear-axle steering, automatic comfort doors, Digital Light headlamps, and the usual champagne flute holder and refrigerator in the rear console. Rear folding tables are also on deck, alongside the two 11.6-inch entertainment screens, a rear tablet in the center console, standard Burmester premium audio with Dolby Atmos, noise suppression, and ambient lighting.
Premium leather upholstery is also on deck, and the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV comes with individual seats at the front and rear. These feature massage, ventilation, and heating functions. The MBUX Hyperscreen is also included, as well, and the vehicle features a plethora of safety systems. Customers can get the five-seat layout as a no-cost option and will have to pay more for additional gizmos.
The Maybach Night Series Design Package, for one, brings the specific 21-inch alloys, Manufaktur gizmos like the walnut wood and exclusive Nappa Leather, dark chrome elements, rose gold pins within the headlamps, bespoke ambient lighting, special entry sills, and dark chrome key. As you can expect, this bundle costs as much as a new car, as it will set interested parties back $25,000.
Sharing its EVA platform with the EQS Sedan and the smaller EQE Sedan and EQE SUV, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV comes with two electric motors that drive both axles. It has a total output of 649 hp (658 ps/484 kW) and enjoys a maximum of 700 lb-ft (950 Nm) of torque. The 0-62 mph (0 to 100 kph) takes 4.4 seconds, and the maximum speed is electronically limited to 130 mph or 210 kph.
Recharging the battery pack takes half an hour from 10 to 80%. The EPA figures have yet to be released, but on the WLTP cycle, it can travel up to 600 km on a full charge, which translates to 373 miles. Just like the normal Benz EQS SUV, the Maybach high-rider is made at the Tuscaloosa factory in Alabama. Customers can already place an order for it at dealers across the nation.
