Back in October, we reported about a crash that took place at the drag strip and involved a brand-new Ford Mustang S650. The car sustained serious damage at the front, rear, and right side. But what has become of it?
Sometimes, it seems that some Ford Mustang owners would do just about anything to be in the news. Of course, nobody wants to have their car crumpled so bad that not even an iron can fix it back. But reckless driving, a lead foot on the accelerator, and the desperate need to show off just don’t go hand in hand. It is actually the perfect combination for a crash.

It is not the car, it never is. At least not when they have just rolled off the production line. Most of the time, in such crashes, the error is between the backrest and the steering wheel. Last month, we published a piece about the blue Ford Mustang S650 that crashed at the drag strip while racing a modified CTS-V. The Cadillac model was discontinued in 2019.

Soon after the start, the tail of the Mustang snapped loose. The driver probably kept pressing the accelerator and drove the car straight into the guardrail head first. The muscle car came to a stop in a chain-link face, which ruined the front end.

And that was not the only part of the Mustang that sustained damage. The front bumper dropped following the impact, making the car look like it's got a gap-toothed mouth. The front suspension was also in pieces by the way the left front wheel hung. The left side sill was hanging as well.

At the opposite end, the rear window must have absorbed some of the force of the impact and was shattered. Following the third-degreee encounter with the fence, the rear end looks terrible and so does the right rear fender and C-pillar.

Soon after the crash, when people gathered around to check the aftermath of the impact, someone was heard saying: "I like the interior on this car, though." Well, he can now buy parts of it. Because the car that was involved in the accident at the drag strip in October is for sale on Copart in November.

It is, therefore, a 2024 Ford Mustang GT, powered by a 4.0-liter V8 Coyote engine, which generates 480 horsepower (487 PS) and 415 lb-ft (563 Nm) of torque. The engine is linked to a ten-speed automatic transmission, which sends the output and torque to the rear wheels.

Equipped with the Performance Package, the GT Coupe flashes from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 4.3 seconds and does the quarter mile in 12.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 163 mph (262 kph). It is obvious why it must be tempting for some drivers to press that paddle to the metal.

The listing on Copart claims that, before the crash, the value of the car was $52,507. The Mustang GT Coupe starts at $42,495. The model painted in Grabber Blue Metallic must have had optional equipment worth of around $10,000, with $1,595 going for the auto box.

Despite the massive damage sustained at the drag strip, the car still runs and drives. It is unclear if the owner had a track insurance, the only insurance option that would have covered the damage. But if they chose to get rid of the car, probably not.

After the crash, there was no information regarding potential injuries sustained by the driver or those watching the drag racing event. But considering that no emergency vehicles were at the scene and nobody seemed worried about anything else but the car, everyone was probably alright. We can’t say the same thing about the ego of the driver and the car.

We can't possibly tell the exact reason why the Mustang crashed that day. It could be that the tires were not warm enough. An oil leak might have been on the tarmac, something common at the drag strip. Or maybe the driver did not have enough experience. As we anticipated back then, the car ended up on the salvage car market.

Ford Mustang are temporarily banned from Coffee and Cars events

All Ford Mustangs are now banned from Coffee and Cars events, and so are all Dodge Chargers and Chevrolet Camaros due to the latest events involving such cars. Burnouts, power slides, and various hazardous demonstrations on public roads are what built the reputation of the drivers of such models.

The organizers of the event work alongside the police to find those who are guilty of excessive revving and burnouts on public roads when leaving the event that took place on November 4.

Once they are found, the Mustangs, Camaros, and Chargers might be allowed back into the events. If such behavior continues, the organizers might go for invitational-only events.
