All those memes that we so often see on social media do make sense every once in a while. Because there are Ford Mustang owners who show total recklessness when it comes to the safety of other traffic participants and of their own. But crashing a brand-new 2024 Ford Mustang GT S650 on a drag strip is a whole different story.
This 2024 Ford Mustang S650 right here lived a short but sweet life, which ended the moment it hit a guardrail on the drag strip. How did it get there? The driver lost traction soon after getaway while racing a Cadillac CTS-V, a model that was discontinued four years ago.

The tail of the Mustang must have snapped loose, and the driver probably did not lift the foot off the accelerator. The Mustang went straight into the guardrail head first and came to a stop in a chain-link fence. The cameraman must have lost it, too, because he kept on shooting the Cadillac, so we can’t see what exactly happened to the Mustang.

Now, everything is a mess. The airbags were deployed, the lower part of th front fascia has been plucked out, and the left side sill hangs loose. The front suspension is also in pieces. Furthermore, the rear end that had a third degree encounter with the fence is simply rumpled, and the rear window was also smashed to pieces.

"I like the interior on this car, though," someone is heard saying during the video shot right after the crash and uploaded on YouTube.

The brand-new Ford Mustang is a total loss, and the driver is going to hyperventilate when he will have to deal with the insurance company. They might not even cover the damages unless he had a track insurance.

The one who uploaded the video on YouTube says he received it from people who thought it was his car the one that crashed. He does indeed have one just like it, same body color, same wheels, same interior. But that is not it.

There is no information on potential injuries sustained by the driver. But considering that no emergency vehicles show up in the footage and nobody seems worried about the one who crashed the car, he was probably alright. But his car and his ego surely are not.

There could be a gazillion reasons why this Mustang crashed. Maybe the tires were not warm enough. Maybe there was some oil leak on the tarmac. Or maybe the driver was just inexperienced on the drag strip. At least he did not crash it while leaving a Cars & Coffee event.

One thing is for sure. This is not going to work out with some TLC. The car that starts at $42,495 on the US market might end up on the salvage car market.

Powered by the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter Coyote V8, the Ford Mustang GT S650 gets 486 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque when equipped with the active valve performance exhaust system or 480 horsepower and 415 lb-ft when standard. The engine is linked to either a six-speed Tremec manual transmission or a ten-speed auto box.

The car can do the 0 to 60 mph (0-97 kph) in 4.3 seconds and can do the quarter mile in 12.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 163 mph. But we can’t tell for sure how quick it is from the start line to the side barrier on the drag strip.
