Surveillance cameras captured the moment a Ford Mustang simply took off in the street and slammed into a house in Grand Terrace, California. Fortunately, nobody was injured, but the driver walked away with two citations. He did not have a driver's license.
A Ford Mustang failed to stop at a Stop sign placed ahead of a T-intersection, on Thursday evening, around 7 p.m., and went flying straight into a house on the side of the Pico Street near Mt. Vernon Avenue in Grand Terrace, California.
The footage caught by a surveillance camera shows that the driver did slam the brakes, but it was way too late. Sparks flew through the air when the rear end touched the tarmac, and so the car went airborne, several feet into the air, before slamming into the wall of the home right in front of it. The owners of the house and the neighbors who heard the bang dialed 911.
From the video uploaded by KTLA 5 on YouTube, we can guess it is a 2010-2012 fifth-generation Ford Mustang. At the time, the ‘Stands were powered by either the 4.0-liter V6 with 210 horsepower (213 PS) and 240 lb-ft (325 Nm) of torque or the then-new 3.7-liter DOHC V6, rated at 305 horsepower (309 PS) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm).
The house the Mustang hit suffered several serious cracks and has been red-tagged due to extensive damage to the structure. The family had to be evacuated to a safer place. So the driver’s insurance company is surely not going to like this.
The owner and their family were at home at the moment of the crash, but no one was injured. Neither was the driver, and the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and fire officials found him standing next to the vehicle which was stuck in the wall, after having extricated himself from the Mustang. He declined medical treatment and the police said he was not under the influence. He told the police he actually tried to avoid hitting another car, but there is no other car in motion showing up in the video.
It is yet unclear what caused the incident, but the police are investigating the crash. They are considering that the over a decade-old car might have suffered a mechanical failure. What they do know is that the Ford was traveling at a very high speed in a residential area, with the driver ignoring the two speed bumps along the way.
The 18-year old driver, though, left home with two citations. One was for failing to stop at a stop sign and the other one was for driving without a license.
This is another lesson that careless drivers and Ford Mustangs are a hazardous combination. Especially when the one behind the wheel isn't legally a driver.
