While most famous US billionaires and millionaires seem to prefer opulent megayachts built at the most prestigious Northern European shipyards, others remain loyal to American builders and classic-style pleasure craft. Even after more than 20 years, the discrete Bouchon, linked to the Walgreens empire, is one of the finest examples of American craftsmanship.
Bouchon is one of those famous superyachts with a discrete presence throughout most of their lives. It's been used privately for 21 years without changing hands. Since it was never available for charter, the public knew very little about it. Only local folks in places like Rochester and Clayton got a glimpse of the American yacht's exterior during its regular trips along the coastline.

Today, Bouchon is enjoyed by the remaining half of the couple who originally commissioned it. After Charles Walgreen III passed away in 2016, his wife Kathleen was the yacht's reported owner. Seven years later, the now 80-year-old heiress is ready to part with the couple's beloved family yacht. Bouchon has been a loyal and discrete companion for more than two decades, and it's now looking for a new owner who will hopefully appreciate it just as much.

The luxury yacht's name is intimately connected to its illustrious owners. Charles Walgreen III was affectionately known as Cork, and "bouchon" is the French term for cork. The vessel is a Custom 150 delivered by Trinity Yachts in 2002. Size-wise, it's not exactly a superyacht because it's only 46 meters (150 feet) long. Still, the truly palatial interiors make up for it, elevating Bouchon to an ultra-luxurious status.

Trinity Yachts was in charge of the vessel's naval architecture and exterior design. The majestic classic-style interiors were styled by Dee Robinson Interiors and Carol Williamson & Associates. The 21-year-old yacht recently entered the market following extensive refits. In 2021, Bouchon got a full exterior repaint. Its sundeck was also completely refitted. It now boasts upgraded systems throughout and a refreshed interior style, although the original classic-style aesthetics are still predominant.

Bouchon is special because it doesn't try to compete with today's younger superyachts. Those who are looking for a cold, ultra-minimalistic approach and futuristic silhouettes won’t find them onboard this all-American beauty. Bouchon exudes the distinctive yet warm ambiance of a traditional family mansion.
The classic Trinity profile is perfectly balanced in every aspect. On board, the 446 GT vessel reveals an opulent décor and a family-friendly layout. There's nothing minimalistic or understated about Bouchon, yet its timeless elegance can easily impress anyone, not just classic-style enthusiasts.

In terms of accommodation, the Walgreen family yacht can welcome ten guests in five sophisticated cabins, with a large nine-person crew ensuring a luxurious guest/crew ratio. The owner's suite is a full-beam palatial cabin on the main deck, fitted with a large office desk and an adjacent lounge area. The lavish en-suite bathroom covered in marble boasts a vintage-style bathtub for ultimate relaxation.

All the other guest cabins are located on the lower deck. The main deck also houses a spacious salon with ample seating and a separate room for formal dining. Guests can also enjoy informal dining up in the skylounge, which doubles as a second salon. This elegant skylounge features a well-equipped bar, upgraded entertainment systems, and a wide lounging area.

The freshly refitted sundeck reveals a generous jacuzzi and a spacious sunbathing area with comfy sun loungers. The aft bridge deck houses another perfect spot for family dining in the open air, while the forward area on the same deck doubles as an informal lounge with fabulous views of the water.

Although not palatial when it comes to size, this American yacht reveals its full grandeur on board. The dark wood panels throughout remind us of the classic gentleman's yachts of a bygone era. Rich shades of blue create a striking contrast, inspired by the old beach houses in places like the Hamptons. Plush furnishings in neutral shades also create a sophisticated counterpoint to the dark wood paneling in the main salon and all of the five cabins.

Bouchon was also well taken care of over the past two decades. Its twin 2,250 hp Caterpillar engines can still handle speeds of up to 20 knots (23 mph/37 kph). At lower speed, Bouchon can smoothly cover more than 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 km).

The Walgreen family is apparently ready to switch to a new luxury yacht. The 21-year-old custom Trinity is up for grabs, asking for nearly $15 million. It's as expensive as a brand-new superyacht but even more valuable because of its American heritage and fabulous interior style.

Trinity is one of the most important names in America's yacht-building history. Founded in the late 1980s by Olympic sailor John Dane III, Trinity gave us some of the greatest luxury yachts ever made, such as the 243-foot Cocoa Bean, the 239-foot New Horizon, or the 197-foot Mia Elise II, owned by car dealership tycoon Terry Taylor.
