It's summer, so everyone thinks about vacations, glamping, and festivals. Even the corner office head honchos at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' UK division recently signed off their approval for a very special VW ID. Buzz Cargo van – and redubbed it as the 'Glamper Van.' Logic dictates that we already know where this marketing effort is headed – social media rather than the distant horizon of far-away road trips.
As such, the 'Glamper Van' is based on the ID. Buzz Cargo was wrapped in a multi-colored design and is destined to offer "festival-goers an Instagram-ready photo booth with props, lighting, and camera with makeover filter." That's a really nice setup, right? At least if you're aiming for influencer status, that is.
Anyway, the unique electric vehicle will debut at PennFest in Buckinghamshire (South East England) on July 21 in a bid to add extra sparkle to the event – a family-friendly music festival featuring artists like Noel Gallagher and Bastille. By the way, this idea isn't entirely new, as Volkswagen debuted the 'Pamper Van' one-off model based on the VW Multivan at the Cornbury Festival last year.
"Following the success of last year's Pamper Van, Volkswagen is pleased to be once again helping festival-goers celebrate in style with the new Glamper Van. Featuring a built-in photo booth, it's the ideal setting to capture the perfect festival photos and showcases the fantastic versatility of the all-electric ID. Buzz Cargo," explained the idea to Laura Bignall, Brand and Performance Marketing Manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
The Volkswagen ID. Buzz battery-powered minivan is a modern take on the legendary VW Type 2 Microbus and was officially announced via an eponymous concept car in 2017 at the North American International Auto Show. As always, VW took its sweet time before introducing the series-production model in the spring of last year, launching it into manufacturing in June and starting European deliveries during the year's second half in two variants – the five-seater ID. Buzz and a panel van-style ID. Buzz Cargo.
The latter is based on the short wheelbase version and has space for two or three people plus 3.9 cubic meters (137.7 cu ft) of cargo volume behind the bulkhead partition. There are no lateral windows, of course, just like with the 'Glamper Van.' By the way, the Americans are still waiting on their first ID. Buzz model, the variant that launched in early June with a longer wheelbase and enhanced powertrains – and this version will then represent the basis for the beloved California campervan OEM transformation going forward.
