The Tesla Cybertruck has probably been the most anticipated vehicle of the year. The long wait, the bizarre angular shape, and the Tesla badge made it one of the most interesting out there. Now, it even got the US police officers thinking.
A police department from Rosenberg, Texas, took to former Twitter/current X to ask Elon Musk if the Tesla Cybertruck would make a good police car. The officers wrote on the social media network that they spotted the vehicle out in the wild. "What do you think, @elonmusk? Will the #Cybertruck make a good police vehicle?" the officers asked Tesla's CEO.
In their tweet, they go ahead and explain that it is still hard to find new vehicles to replenish their older police units. "Should we make the change in 2024?" they asked. Musk reacted with an emoji that reads "100" meaning that it is a 100 percent yes. Musk's reply sparked a gazillion more reactions.
The police department also uploaded two photos of the Cybertruck. A police officer shows up posing next to the vehicle, an image that would trick anyone into believing that the electric vehicle is indeed a police truck. The post on X reached over 407,000 users, and over 3,000 people reacted to it.
The Tesla Cybertruck turning into a police truck would not be that far-fetched. Last September, Unplugged Performance released several photos of a Model Y sporting a police livery. Such cars are not just renderings, but vehicles that will actually be in the fleet of the police in South Pasadena, California.
The model comes with a bull bar and flashing blue and red lights installed at the front. There are red lights on the side skirts, plus a red and blue light bar on the roof of the vehicle. The Model Y rides on aftermarket gloss black wheels with all-terrain tires.
Furthermore, a rendering of the Tesla Cybertruck with a police livery was shown during an Oracle Cloud World event in Las Vegas. The co-founder of the computer tech giant, Larry Ellison, used to be a member of Tesla’s board of directors. So, this, indeed, explains his interest in such a project. He claims that the Cybertruck police car is coming very soon. We just hope that his “very soon” is not similar to Elon Musk’s.
One thing is for sure. Tesla has started the deliveries of the Cybertruck at a slow pace. The first to roll off the production line is the Foundation Series, which starts at $120,000. Later on, the entry-level variant will be available with an MSRP of $60,990. Back in November 2019, when Elon Musk unveiled the prototype that previewed the production model, the Cybertruck started at $39,900.
