When it comes to the second-gen G-Wagen family, the model that gets the most attention is the Mercedes-AMG G 63. It is the range-topping flavor of the series, and despite being capable of pulling some impressive straight-line numbers, it is still a great off-roader.
Its bi-turbo V8 engine makes it perform better off the beaten path than the regular Mercedes-Benz G-Class models. It pumps out 577 hp (585 ps/430 kW), allowing it to push to 62 mph (100 kph) in a little over four and a half seconds, with a 137 mph (220 kph) top speed.

Do you know what other model shares this lump in the exact same configuration? That would be the Mercedes-AMG G 63 4x4². This is an even more potent off-roader with a greater ground clearance, portal axles so that it can conquer more significant obstacles, a wading depth of 35.8 inches (910 mm). and a 45-degree approach angle.

Several tuners have already launched multiple upgrades for the G 63 4x4 Squared, and Brabus' name is high on the list. Their portfolio comprises the usual boosted visual dynamics, as well as additional oomph. The company's off-roader has 690 hp (700 ps/515 kW) on tap in its lowest setting and a healthier 789 hp (800 ps/589 kW) that's also available, with the thrust being rated at 701 and 738 lb-ft (950-1,000 Nm) of torque, respectively, up from the stock model's 627 lb-ft (850 Nm).

Chances are, with the extra oomph, the Brabus G 63 4x4² can probably match the straight-line sprint of the standard G 63 and even surpass it. But that's our two cents, as the tuner hasn't mentioned the acceleration time of its tuned proposals. And speaking of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 4x4² super trucks that have received the Brabus touch of magic, they also include the pictured example.

A true murdered-out copy, it has an all-black look on the outside and no chrome trim whatsoever. The vehicle features several goodies that came from the tuner's shelves, yet the reason for ending up on Wheels Boutique’s Instagram is the new alloy set. The wheels have a very large diameter, being significantly bigger than the stock offering.

The multi-spoke wheels retain the three-pointed star's logo in the middle, wrapped in a chunky-looking rubber set. Nonetheless, for real off-roading, we would recommend sticking to a smaller set and ordering some larger tires. However, for what it's worth, despite looking like a military machine that can conquer some very steep slopes, it is possible that this Mercedes-AMG G 63 4x4² is nothing more than a mall crawler. You know, the kind of ride that will never see anything other than smooth tarmac under its feet. But that doesn't mean that we don't like it.
