There’s no doubt that the aptly named Big Red is destined to turn heads wherever it goes. It's not just its size but also the eye-catching, vibrant red exterior. You'd think that a generous 32-foot tiny hides a lavish bedroom and a huge lounge, yet this is a unique custom project with an even more unique interior style.
If you think the Big Red looks great on the outside, wait till you see its interior. You'd be surprised to discover a special bohemian ambiance, highlighted by the abundant use of wood – not just any wood. It's live edge wood that makes this gorgeous tiny house come to life. And it's locally sourced, in line with the sustainability goal behind any tiny living project.

According to the builder, this beautiful wood was sourced from one stand of trees in the Cowichan Valley, giving this local project a unique flavor. This isn't some prefab, industrial-style house where everything is standardized. The Big Red has character and personality, as well as a special connection to the natural surroundings from which it got its custom furniture.

Despite its above-average length of more than 30 feet (9.7 meters), this house on wheels doesn't display the typical layout of a family home. It has no bedrooms and not even a living room. That's because it was a special custom project designed to work in tandem with an existing structure at the final location. The living space that had been already built on-site included a living room and multiple bedrooms. The Big Red was attached to it through one wall that was left open in two large sections.

Since there was no need for these amenities that typically take up a lot of space, the Big Red's generous surface was dedicated entirely to a stunning kitchen and a flawless bathroom, the kind that regular tiny homes can only dream about. The kitchen is more than a chef's dream. It's a vintage, bohemian space for cooking, dining, and socializing that seems to travel back in time.

Top-quality wood was used throughout, which instantly elevates this kitchen's overall style. Above all, the live edge wood insertions, such as the top window frames, the shelves, and the dining table, add an exquisite touch. Color-wise, the red walls match the eye-catching exterior, highlighting the bright-white ceiling, the dark wood, and the patterned backsplash.

Needless to say, there's abundant space for cooking, storage, enjoying family meals, and even entertaining guests. The L-shaped kitchen flaunts gorgeous countertops and integrates premium, full-size appliances, including a propane range, a dishwasher, a stainless steel fridge, and an overhead microwave/hood fan combo.

The elegant kitchen cabinets offer generous storage, but several shelves and cupboards were still mounted on the walls, doubling as decorative features – especially the oversized live edge wood shelves in the corner, which look more like a work of art than simple storage solutions.

The live edge wood dining table could also be considered artwork. It's the perfect centerpiece for the diner-style dining setup with a wonderful retro vibe. Vintage-style benches were added instead of basic chairs for an authentic diner experience. They're surrounded by large windows with beautifully crafted wooden frames. It's neither a traditional family home dining room nor a standard tiny house layout. It's homely, retro, and bohemian at the same time.

A large skylight is another great addition that adds luminosity to the center of the kitchen. A similar generously sized skylight was added to the bathroom as well. To say that this is a spa-like bathroom would be an understatement. It's probably one of the most elegant tiny home bathrooms ever designed and packed with luxury appliances. We don't often get to see live edge wood used in tiny house bathrooms, but the Big Red makes a lavish display throughout.

The beautiful woodwork is complemented by the use of natural slate for the flooring. The white shiplap walls are reminiscent of old-school beach houses, and the same elegant window frames as the ones in the kitchen add visual depth.

One of the advantages of such a spacious bathroom is the ability to add multiple large windows, which make it seem even bigger, as well as bright and airy. Forget the humble vanities inside most tiny homes – the Big Red comes with abundant bathroom storage and the most elegant furniture.

The glass shower cabin with tiled walls is another luxurious feature despite its unusual pairing with an eco-friendly composting toilet. The entire house is a mix of luxurious and bohemian features. In terms of comfort, its appliances included an on-demand propane water heater and in-floor heating for the bathroom. Plus, there was ample room for a full-size washer and a dryer.

As unique as it is, the Big Red can still easily inspire tiny home designs with a more conventional approach. Its gorgeous, lively style proves that customizing a home with top-notch furniture made of locally sourced wood can sometimes be the greatest form of luxury.
