The 1971 model year brought quite a few surprises for the Chevelle lineup, including new styling refinements that refreshed the look, especially from the front and the back.
The new Chevelle sported a redesigned grille, single-unit headlights, dual-round taillights, and other small tweaks whose purpose was to make the Chevelle feel fresh and modern. At some level, these changes served their purpose just right, though I must admit that Chevrolet pretty much killed off the SS magic with this model year.
In 1971, the Super Sport package was just an option that could be ordered with pretty much any V8 engine in the lineup. As such, the Chevelle SS evolved from a small rocket on wheels (when equipped with the right engine) to an appearance package that anybody could own. Chevrolet offered very potent engine options, including the almighty LS5 454, whose power rating was increased to 365 hp.
The 1971 Chevelle that seller beynum62 has recently posted on eBay is just a bad memory of this model year, as the car looks… well, I probably shouldn’t call it a car in the first place.
The Chevelle was abandoned in what looked to be a forest, where its metal turned into a rust bucket. The frame is apparently the only good thing on this Chevelle, though the provided photos indicate the relic still has plenty of other parts. Most pictures, however, highlight the horrible condition rather than the main selling points (if there are any, obviously).
It makes little sense to discuss the engine under the hood because the front of the car is missing entirely (including the engine, that is). Most likely, this Chevelle served as a donor for another project, so it's hard to tell right now just how much of it is still there.
Potential buyers should just go check out the vehicle in person, as otherwise, you can hardly tell if the big pile of rusty metal can still be used for anything else than a chicken nesting box.
Despite the horrible condition, the seller is still optimistic they could get around $2,200 for this Chevelle. On the other hand, the Make Offer button has also been enabled, so maybe trades or lower offers would be accepted as well. According to eBay's statistics, 16 people are already monitoring this listing, so it's probably just a matter of days until someone brave enough decides to give this rusty Chevelle a second chance (though, given its condition, that'll be quite a challenge).
