With 99,891 units delivered stateside in 2022, the Kia Telluride is very important for the South Korean automaker in the United States market. Refreshed for the 2023 model year, the family-sized crossover enters 2024 with modest changes.
For starters, the manufacturer suggested retail price is up $100 across the board. A whopping 14 trim levels are currently available to configure, ranging from the LX FWD to the SX-Prestige AWD X-Pro. In terms of pricing, make that $35,990 to $53,185 (excluding the $1,365 freight charge and options).

All grades feature amber daytime running lights for the 2024 model year. The X-Line and X-Pro grades now come with glossy black exterior accents rather than dark metallic. This finish is present on the front and rear bumpers, front grille surround, the headlight bezels, and the lower door garnish.

A direct-injected V6 with 3.8 liters to its name can be had with either front- or all-wheel drive. In combination with a torque-converter automatic transmission, said engine is much obliged to return up to 22 miles per gallon (make that 10.7 liters per 100 kilometers) on the EPA's combined test cycle. Opting for all-wheel drive means 20 mpg (11.8 l/100 km) combined.

A member of the Lambda II engine family, the Atkinson-cycle lump cranks out 291 horsepower at 6,000 revolutions per minute and 262 pound-feet (355 Nm) at 5,200 revolutions per minute. Prevalent in hybrid vehicles, the Atkinson cycle's primary advantage over the Otto cycle is the significantly larger expansion ratio compared to the compression ratio.

All trims of the 2024 model year Telluride boast Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, which Kia refers to as FCA. The system detects pedestrians and cyclists, and it further sweetens the deal with something called Junction Turning. By that, Kia refers to a function designed to avoid a collision with oncoming vehicles in the adjacent lanes when turning (with the turn signal on) by applying the brakes automatically.

While on the subject of safety witchcraft, the Telluride also flaunts Smart Cruise Control (with Stop & Go), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision – Avoidance Assist, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Curve, Lane Follow Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist. Seating for eight, 18-inch alloys, LED headlights, SynTex upholstery, one-touch sliding and folding second-row seats, rear privacy glass, and leather on the steering wheel are the highlights of the entry-level Telluride LX FWD grade.

At the other end of the spectrum, the SX-Prestige AWD X-Pro rocks all-terrain rubber boots, more rugged styling traits, active on-demand AWD with a centrally-mounted locking differential, increased ground clearance, self-leveling rear suspension, a smart power tailgate, Nappa leather seats, a heated steering wheel, seven seats due to second-row captain's chairs, two sunroofs, and high-utility longitudinal roof rails.

If the Telluride doesn't really float your boat in the mid-size unibody sport utility vehicle segment, fret not because there are many three-row alternatives to choose from. Competitors include the Subaru Ascent, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Grand Highlander, Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, and technically similar Hyundai Palisade. Whereas the Telluride is manufactured stateside, the Palisade is made in South Korea.
