The Ford F-Series may dominate the full-size pickup truck segment but General Motors isn’t too far behind with the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. Taken together, those two are breathing down the neck of the Blue Oval in terms of U.S. sales while Ram couldn’t do better than 633,694 workhorses in 2019.
Another strong point of the ‘Rado and Sierra comes in the guise of engine options, ranging from an honest V6 to a torquey inline-six turbo diesel and a couple of small-block V8s. The 6.2-liter isn’t only the most powerful of the bunch at 420 HP (426 PS) but also features Dynamic Fuel Management, a fuel-saving technology that can shut off up to seven of the motor’s eight cylinders.

However, what Hennessey calls the Goliath 700 couldn’t care less about that. The Texas-based tuner adds a 2.9-liter supercharger to the mix, running six pounds of boost for a total of 700 HP (710 PS) at the super truck’s crankshaft. Of course, the upgrade pack also includes a different camshaft and pushrods.

$29,950 is the asking price for the Goliath 700 excluding the donor vehicle, and if you want some off-road chops with it, add another $16,950 to the tally. The question is, how quick is the tuned truck against a stock truck?

Hennessey Performance Engineering is much obliged to answer that question with a good ol’ drag race, Silverado 1500 versus Silverado 1500, both double cabs with four-wheel-drive and the Z71 Off-Road Package. The supercharged leviathan shows the advantages of forced induction versus natural aspiration right off the bat, and at the end of the 1/4-mile race, the winner is pretty obvious.

The tuner’s YouTube channel has also uploaded a clip of the GMC Sierra 1500 with the Goliath 700 and Stage 1 off-road upgrades as well as a video of the luxotruck hitting the dyno. At the rear wheels, 531 horsepower translates to a 163-horsepower gain over the stock half-tonner. Taking a 25-percent drivetrain loss into consideration, the blacked-out pickup develops 708 horsepower at the crankshaft.

708 HP is 718 PS in the metric system, meaning that the Hennessey Goliath 700 is two ponies short of the twin-turbo V8 in the McLaren 720S mid-engine supercar.
