Chevrolet kept the third generation of the Equinox just six years before it replaced it with the fourth generation of this nameplate at the beginning of 2024 for the 2025 model year.

The Equinox was one of the best-selling vehicles in GM’s inventory, and the American automaker tried to maintain this advantage. As a result, instead of giving another facelift to the third generation, it completely changed the vehicle. The 2025 model was wider and roomier than its predecessor and promised to be more fun-to-drive vehicle. In addition, it gained a new trim level that made the car perfectly capable of tackling some rough roads. Even though it wasn’t a hard-core off-road vehicle, it could handle well in more difficult situations than before. Those who wanted the Equinox as an all-around, asphalt-oriented vehicle could have it in the RS clothing that sported a more aggressive look than the rest of its stablemates.

Regardless of the trim level customers chose, the Equinox featured a tall front area with a black and broad grille. The Activ version had its specific badge on the top-right corner of the grille. For the RS version, the automaker created a different pattern with a hexagonal and recessed area for the grille and a red badge on it. Interestingly, both versions had the bow-tie badge black surrounded by a chromed trim. While the Activ version had a skid-plate-like matte black trim on the lower side of the apron, the RS featured a shiny black lower area.

From its profile, the compact-sized crossover featured matte plastic cladding around wheel arches and a set of 17” alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires for the Activ version, while the RS came with 19” as standard and 20-inch as an option. A two-tone color option was also on the table, with white roofs for the Activ and black for the RS. Those looking for a more affordable version could get the LT trim level that came with a one-tone option. The sculptured door panels and the raised shoulders above the rear wheels created a muscular for the 2025 Equinox, a car that had to compete against other highly appreciated crossovers in the segment, such as the Toyota Rav4 and the Honda CR-V. Finally, at the back, the automaker installed Y-shaped taillights extended from the quarter panels to the tailgate.

Inside, GM completely ditched the traditional instrument cluster. It replaced it with an 11-inch display that showed the dials and other driving-related information. Next to it, atop the center stack, the Equinox featured an 11.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. It was Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. Unlike other automakers, Chevrolet listened to its customers and left the turn-volume knob close to the driver. In addition, the climate control functions were analog, with rotary dials and physical buttons. The minimalist design of the dashboard was adorned by a black trim in front of the side passenger. Between the bucket seats up front, the automaker installed a center console fitted with a wireless charger and two cup holders. In the back, the Equinox featured a split-folding bench seat fit for three passengers. Surprisingly, the automaker found a way to create an almost flat floor with just a small hump for the transmission tunnel.

Under the hood, Chevrolet installed a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with a CVT for vehicles fitted with front-wheel drive systems. The all-wheel drive versions sent their power to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
