Steve Aoki is a well-known car guy with the kind of fleet that only good money and good taste can put together. But that doesn't make him immune to the rugged charm of the Tesla Cybertruck.
The world-famous DJ just took delivery of a brand new Cybertruck, the Founders Edition, and turned the delivery into an overly excited video tour for his fans. His video was also shared online by Tesla CEO Elon Musk because – wouldn't you know it? – with friends like these, who needs advertising? Tesla is famously advertising shy as part of Musk's belief that a good product will sell by word of mouth.
When the mouth is on the likes of Steve Aoki, no wonder.
Aoki is just the latest celebrity to show off a brand new Cybertruck on social media, after R&B singer Ciara, reality star and self-styled billionaire Kim Kardashian, pop star Justin Bieber, music and fashion guru Pharrell Williams, and Mother Monster Lady Gaga. And these are just the most recent to have done so.
Of the lot, though, Aoki seems the most taken with his Cyberbeast, which he describes as "a real beaut" that immediately stands out from all the rest of the cars and which "drives like a tank." The other stars must also love their Cybertruck to have paid more than $100,000 for it but seem to be stuck for now on using it as a photo prop.
Not Aoki, though.
The DJ excitedly describes his new e-truck, explains that it's one of the 1,000 first units that will come in the Founders Edition spec, praises the angular, utilitarian, futuristic styling of the vehicle, and even gushes about how "awesome" the tonneau cover is, even when he doesn't know how to actually open it. He is visibly thrilled and more than happy to share his new purchase with the world.
Again, for someone who has owned and/or experienced firsthand everything from a Scion FR-S with a custom audio system and fog machine inside the cabin to a custom Ferrari 458 Spider and a BMW iX1, Aoki is not the type of celebrity who can easily be blown away. But the Cybertruck does just that: Aoki is giddy with joy and somewhat speechless at finally seeing his Cybertruck in person. "It's crazy, man, I can't believe I bought this!," he even says at one point.
Aoki gushes about the massive windshield wiper, the sharp front end with Sci-fi vibes, the narrow headlight that adds an extra note of futurism, and the spacious cabin. And he does all this before actually getting behind the wheel for a first test drive.
Elon Musk has often said in the past that Tesla is better off using whatever money they would spend on advertising to build a better product. When early adopters include celebrities with the kind of reach Aoki and all those others mentioned above have, advertising would be an absolute waste of cash. Heck, Aoki's passionate presentation alone could probably do the job!
