Skoda wants to expand its reach in India by introducing a brand new model. The vehicle will be an SUV (crossover) of small proportions that will be developed and sold locally.
According to the Czech car manufacturer, the yet-unnamed crossover will utilize the MQB-A0-IN platform. This architecture is a low-cost variation of the regular MQB-A0 that underpins the Kamiq, Scala, Fabia, SEAT Ibiza, Arona, VW Polo, T-Cross, Audi A1, and others, and it is the foundation stone of the Kushaq and Slavia Skoda sells locally, as well as the VW Taigun/T-Cross and Virtus/Polo Sedan.

Skoda promises the future model will meet the stricter emission and safety requirements, reminding us that both the Kushaq and Slavia have earned a maximum five-star rating in Global NCAP's tests. Details surrounding the powertrain family will be announced in due course. However, we suspect it will feature small three- and four-cylinder units fed by gasoline, just like its Kushaq and Slavia siblings, likely mated to manual and automatic transmissions, with the latter being optional.

The company refers to the upcoming model as being compact. However, it will be smaller than the subcompact Kamiq Skoda sells in the Old Continent, which measures 4,241 mm (167 inches) from bumper to bumper. This crossover will be sub-4 meters (157.5 in) long, so it will be a city car, by European standards, with generous ground clearance.

Besides announcing a few basic details about it, Skoda has also released an official sketch that previews its design. This digital illustration shows it will feature the brand's traditional grille, a pair of slender LED headlamps, large intakes in the front bumper, fat fenders, a clam-shell-like hood, ultra-thin side mirrors, and roof rails. However, the rendering is overenthusiastic, so we expect the final product to look more tamed than it does here.

What else can we tell you about it? That the Czech car manufacturer has yet to christen it. In fact, the brand encourages its fanbase and potential future customers to suggest naming ideas. The official baptism will take place later this year when Skoda will announce the name, which will probably end with a 'q.'

The last piece of information is that the upcoming tiny crossover is scheduled to hit the roads in the first half of 2025. As you already know, the yet-unnamed machine will be reserved solely for India. As Skoda says, it will be developed and built specifically with this market in mind. The vehicle will help the auto marque reach its annual sales target of 100,000 locally by 2026, and if anything, we think they will introduce even more models in India in the coming years, with its parent company's blessing, the Volkswagen Group, joined by its sister companies.
