During the first quarter of the year, automotive sales in America didn't change all that much from last year or the same quarter of 2023 – Ford's F-Series was still on top, followed by another pickup truck series and three compact crossover SUVs to round up the Top 5.
The eternal F-Series was followed by the quintessential runner-up, Chevrolet's Silverado, but Ram only placed sixth with the P/U series. In between them were the usual suspects, though – Toyota's best-selling RAV4, followed by the Honda CR-V and Nissan's Rogue, of course.

With that picture in mind, you would think that passenger cars are dead and buried across the US automotive market. Not so fast, don't call them extinct just yet, even though Chrysler killed off the 300 and Dodge is on hiatus for the entire year with the Charger Daytona only coming in a classic two-door fastback coupe format for the 2024MY.

Instead, Chevrolet still has the dirt-cheap $25,100 Malibu mid-size sedan on sale, while the Asian carmakers didn't flinch and also have some pretty compelling options on sale. More precisely, Toyota's legendary Camry is still going strong in seventh place overall in Q1 despite the 2025 Camry arriving all-new soon enough. Also, Honda's Accord sits in the fourteenth position, followed by the Nissan Sentra instead of the outgoing Altima. Chevy's Malibu also breaks into the Top 20 in the second to last position.

As such, with the Corolla and Civic series also in the ranks (10th and 9th, respectively), it's clear that passenger cars haven't abandoned the fight just yet. However, there is one particular automaker that has given up hope a little too early if you ask around – and even the imaginative realm of digital car content creators agrees that Ford Motor Company may have a little too quick to dismiss all of its other non-high-riding nameplates aside from the iconic Mustang.

For example, Jim, the virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, loves messing around with all things CGI from FoMoCo, both old and new, as he is the proud owner of a 1986 Buick Regal T-type and a 2001 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning. As such, his fans are never surprised when he plays with something from GM or FoMoCo – including stuff like reviving the Chevy Lumina Z34 two-door coupe out of the current Malibu sedan or morphing the refreshed 2024 Envision CUV into a Regal GS Turbo fastback sedan.

Now he's back in a Blue Oval mood, and "just because FoMoCo needs to get back into the sedan game to battle the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry," he's got a vision for a modern-day Ford Taurus. The original was produced in the US from model years 1986 to 2019 and was both a mid-size (1985-2007) and a full-size car (2007-2019) during its stint. So, a contemporary Ford Taurus could easily get the right dimensions to battle the Accord, Camry, or Malibu without upsetting anyone – if it looks like this design project, at least.
