While most regions are overrun by the hype surrounding crossovers, SUVs, and trucks, America still has a rather soft spot for family cars. And some of the best of them are loved because they're excellent mid-size family sedans.
These models are sometimes cheap, sometimes technologically-savvy, and other times a bit more expensive or quirky in terms of design, but they always try to come with a spacious cabin, great road manners, good MSRPs, and first-rate build quality, and top-notch reliability. Of course, the perfect mid-size sedan for a family hasn't been invented yet, so automakers keep trying to refine the recipe.

If you're looking for choice, the market includes nameplates like the best-selling Toyota Camry – just renewed for the 2025 model year and soon only available as a hybrid model; the Honda Accord – both ICE only and hybrid; the Kia K5 and Hyundai Sonata – which are two peas in the same pod but look quite different from each other especially thanks to the recent refreshes; the old-school Nissan Altima; the Subaru Legacy, or the ultra-affordable $25k Chevy Malibu.

Notice that some carmakers don't have entries into the field anymore – Ford or Mazda, for example. Suppose there's nothing we can do about the Blue Oval returning to passenger car form with a mid-size sedan. In that case, it turns out the rumor mill believes that not all hope is lost for Mazda, even though it recently dropped the Mazda6 series from its Japanese lineup, too, after retiring it from America back in 2021.

Alas, a recent trademark for a Mazda '6e' model has sparked a debate about the potential return of the nameplate with electrified powertrains. Of course, the rumor mill quickly established the hypothetical Mazda 6e could get the same architecture that underpins the new CX-60, CX-70, and CX-90 crossover SUVs, complete with mild hybrid inline-six engines and an inline-four plug-in hybrid option.

The imaginative realm of digital car content creators wasn't too far behind, either, of course. As such, we have seen the pixel master Vince Burlapp (aka 'vburlapp' on social media) dreaming of a virtually stylish and extremely fashionable Mazda 6e sedan and station wagon series, plus the 'Halo oto' channel on YouTube also pitching in with more subtle upgrades for both the four- and five-door versions.

Now, though, it is time to see Sugar Chow, the virtual artist better known as sugardesign_1 on social media, ready to chip in on the highly unofficial matters. His variant of CGI business operations, though, isn't to everyone's liking, for sure – as the author thinks that Mazda could instead piggyback on a Chinese EV model's underpinnings if the Japanese automaker decides to make the next Mazda6 fully electric.

The nameplate in question is the Changan Automobile Deepal SL03 liftback sedan, which is actually offered with three powertrain options – battery-powered, a series hybrid, and as an EV with a hydrogen electrochemical generator. So, what do you think?
