Over in America, most of the Japanese and other Asian carmakers fared quite well across the automotive market during the first three months of the year.
Toyota placed second in close proximity to GM (over 594k units, down 1.5%) with sales of more than 565k vehicles, a jump of more than 20% compared to the first quarter of 2023. American Honda followed it with sales jumping to 333,824 units, a few more deliveries than Stellantis' FCA US LLC performance, which was down 10 percent during Q1.

Thirdly, the Nissan Group followed Toyota and Honda in the Japanese ranks with 252,735 vehicles, surging by 7.2%, ahead of the overall market average of 4.7%. Following 20 months of consecutive growth, Subaru is pretty pleased with itself, too, and its 153k performance – it soared 6.7% year-over-year. Oddly enough, you would think that a tiny automaker like Mazda would be dead last in the ranks, right?

As it turns out, Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) announced quarterly sales of just 28,403 examples. Meanwhile, for the same January to March period, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) jumped 13.3% to over 100k sales! The good times are rolling at Mazda even though it doesn't have the largest model lineup – Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mazda3 for passenger cars along with the CX-30, CX-5, CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90 as far as the crossover SUVs are concerned. Obviously, CUVs vastly outnumber the company's passenger cars nowadays, and the brand is happy that its new CX-60, CX-70, and CX-90 are becoming popular thanks to their style, comfort, and new Large Product Group platform with rear- and all-wheel drive with longitudinal engine setup.

Interestingly, it seems that the rumor mill is convinced Mazda has had a change of heart regarding the mid-size Mazda6 sedan and station wagon – a nameplate that was just retired from its home market of Japan after it was dropped from the North American roster following the introduction of the 2022 model year variants alongside the small CX-3. However, now a leaked Mazda 6e patent application has lifted the spirits of fans who were saddened to see it bow out of various regions one by one.

Naturally, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators is not far behind in trying to envision the looks of the hypothetically revived Mazda 6e for North American and other international markets. For example, the Halo oto channel on YouTube provides fresh automotive info corroborated with their virtual designs; now, there are new CGI ideas about the fresh 6e leak – both in Sport Sedan and Sport Wagon form.

So, what do you think? Will an all-new Mazda 6e arrive on the market with an evolutionary design, as pictured here by the channel's resident pixel master? As for technical details, it's not hard to guess that a potential Mazda 6e might not be fully electric – instead, it could use the same architecture as the CX-60/70/90 along with the inline-six mild hybrid engines and the PHEV variant.
