The good folks over at the racing-focused ImportRace channel on YouTube were recently on point during TX2K's 2024 edition, but now they're back to 'minor' events like Street Car Takeover.
TX2K, taking place at the historical Texas Motorplex, had everything, from mild to severe crashes and accompanying drama and from new world records to monsters rocking in excess of 3,000 horsepower down the quarter-mile track. But, of course, all good things must come to an end eventually, and after ample coverage, the videographer also moved on.

No worries, he found something equally interesting at the latest Street Car Takeover event – most likely at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, Florida. Over there, a little Fox Body Ford Mustang became the center of attraction after the host found out that it had over 1,000 horsepower packed behind the looks of something that was transported with a time machine from the early 1990s. Well, looks can be deceiving, so do note the green rascal not only has massive race tires and wheels in the back but also a parachute attached to the rear bumper.

Usually, those braking aids aren't there for nothing, so we also became quite attentive. Its first skirmish was against a 'modern classic,' the R35 Nissan GT-R and the Japanese grand tourer usually isn't something that can be trifled with. On this occasion, though, it had to admit defeat because the Fox Body rascal was simply too quick – 8.06s versus 9.56s. But, as it turns out, that was just the appetizer to put the Fox Body into the proper perspective. As such, next came a modded Lamborghini Huracan.

The mid-engine supercar is always a great target for aftermarket outlets to reveal their prowess, and we were obviously expecting a spectacular performance from the matte-black-and-orange-calipers Italian thoroughbred. Well, as it turns out, always expect the unexpected at the local quarter-mile dragstrip. On this occasion, the surprise was created by the mega-poor reaction time from the Lambo driver – by the time it finally left the starting position, the Fox Body Ford Mustang was already done with the mini-wheelie, comfortably in the lead and almost ready to wrap up the pass.

In the end, the result speaks for itself – Ford Mustang's ET was recorded at 8.19s at 164 mph, while the mid-engine Italian stallion wrapped up the proceeds in 8.22s at 180 mph. That was close, but not close enough, and this Fox Body clearly obliterated two of the most beloved quarter-mile dragstrip heroes – a JDM and a Euro representative couldn't win against an American muscle car that was quite (in)famous for its design more than three decades ago. Oh, well, we really don't mind that at all – at least as long as the spectacle is ensured, right?
