Virtually Fashionable Mazda 6e Wagon Thinks Crossovers and SUVs Are Overrated

Mazda started the year strong in America with the 2024 MX-5 Miata getting a ton of useful upgrades with confirmation for the US specification of the 'ND3' refresh. It also revealed the CX-70 crossover SUV, the two-row version of the CX-90 with straight-six power and also a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
But then it fizzled out because, over the past couple of months, we haven't heard anything interesting or noteworthy from them – with one very interesting exception. More precisely, a report claimed the rumor mill uncovered a filling with the European Union Intellectual Property Office that should make fans optimistic about the perspectives of a new Mazda6 generation. The trademark was for a '6e' model, hinting that if the series returns, it will be solely in some electrified form.

With the EV market slowing down, it's logical to think that Mazda doesn't automatically think about all-electric power as the company also has mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid e-Skyactiv powertrains, and those could easily be adapted from the CX crossovers to a new Mazda 6e. Naturally, because the Mazda6 nameplate was a popular model among fans, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators wasn't too far behind, either. For example, Vince Burlapp (aka vburlapp on social media or burlappcar.com) is a prolific virtual artist who loves to dream of all the latest models across the wide-ranging automotive realm.

So, he immediately cooked up an unofficial Mazda 6e with obvious inspiration from the latest models in the lineup, like Mazda's CX-60, CX-70, or CX-90, but also with a stylish and elegant styling appropriate for a nimble four-door sedan. His vision is sleek and modern, as opposed to other ideas that simply recycle the third generation of the Mazda6, a variant that has been around on the market since 2012. Later on, he also saw a fellow pixel master's depiction of a potential Mazda 6e station wagon, and horrified by the CGI styling, he decided to have another go at the rumored project.

As such, he also tried to imagine a potential Mazda 6e Wagon as an alternative to the mass of Camry and Accord sedans. It's not a bad idea, frankly, with a short front overhang, big doors both at the front and rear, plus a pointy rear end to make it aerodynamic and slightly quirky too. Of course, given that Mazda uses the new rear- and all-wheel drive with a longitudinal engine layout platform called 'Large Product Group' on the CX-60, CX-70, and CX-90, it would be easy to envision it underpinning the Mazda 6e sedan and station wagon, too, right?

However, do take all this with a pinch of salt as nothing is official from the Japanese automaker, and it remains to be seen if they actually intend to do something useful with the trademark or if they simply protected it for the foreseeable future…
