It seems that a potential EV market slowdown has been attested by Tesla and BYD's most recent sales results, so everyone and their mother are wondering what happens next.
Just recently, Tesla announced a very important milestone – the American automaker and clean energy company produced six million EVs. It came swiftly after a huge threshold – just six months after announcing it had manufactured five million zero-emissions vehicles. However, disaster soon struck – at least according to the volatile karma of Wall Street.

More precisely, Tesla posted its first sales decline over the past four years, with the first quarter of 2024 deliveries numbering 'just' 386,810 examples, down 20.2% from the previous quarter and minus 8.5% year-over-year. Additionally, it produced many more vehicles - 433,371 units – which could signal a perceived gap between demand and supply.

Chinese carmaker BYD will also soon lose its crown as the world's largest producer of EVs as it only delivered a little over 300k 'new energy vehicles' during the first three months of the year after a massive sales plunge in February. If there's no answer to Tesla's negative performance yet, some say the Chinese New Year heavily impacted the results for BYD, and we might see a comeback during the next quarter.

With all that in mind, it's counterintuitive to ditch a project for an affordable EV produced on an all-new platform that could cut manufacturing costs in half, right? Alas, the rumor mill has allegedly found out that Tesla suddenly decided to abandon its $25k compact and affordable EV model. Well, it's not surprising – the idea has bounced back and forth over the years due to the recent developments across the zero-emissions market.

However, Musk quickly refuted the trustfulness of the report, and the Tesla stock bounced back and forth between desperation and hope. Of course, logic dictates that Tesla's new Gen-3 EVs are needed to bring back the growth curve that has become a tradition at the EV automaker – and scrapping an affordable model from the lineup doesn't make too much sense when thinking about the company's desire to bring affordable EVs to the masses.

Anyway, in the heat of the reporting action, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators also chipped in to present their side of the battery-powered equation. More precisely, Vince Burlapp (aka vburlapp on social media or burlappcar.com) is a prolific virtual artist who loves to dream of all the latest models across the wide-ranging automotive realm, and he's got an opinion and a few renderings focused on the $25k compact Tesla EV.

He considers the affordable Tesla EV one of the most hotly anticipated automobiles in the world based on the success of the more expensive Model Y crossover SUV and also the fact that many other carmakers are also working on cheaper zero emissions models, including VW, Hyundai, Kia, GM, Ford, and others. Of course, he also has a vision – or two, or even three – about the upcoming model.

So, one of his design projects is an odd mix between the pre-facelift Tesla Model 3 and a simple hatchback design, the other is a shrunken Tesla Model Y, and the third one feels like the most enticing – showcasing the rear POV of a compact EV that is both simple and sporty at the same time. So, what do you think? Are we getting a $25k EV from Tesla?
